Do we have any known working Slimline enclosures that aren't listed in the first post? Not finding those in stock.
In December I purchased this from Amazon & swapped the included drive for the BU40N I had. Enclosure worked fine to flash the BU40N & then to rip 4K/UHD discs: External CD/DVD Drive for Laptop, DVD Burner CD Reader for Laptop, 8-in-1 USB 3.0 Portable CD Players with SD/TF Ports, External Disk Drive Optical for MacBook Windows 11 10 PC Linux OS

I paid $18 for it in December. The other ports/features are a nice bonus. It has the attached USB-C/USB-A data cable, and includes a second USB-C (dedicated power port) -> USB-A cable just for power.

Thanks,
Frank

Damn. My last drive failed today. It won't power on. I have a huge media library and now I'm afraid I'll never be able to rip again. I can't find any supported drives anymore. :( I see a couple on eBay for high prices but that seems risky. I've purchased all my discs. I just want to be able to rip my own media files to watch them on my Zidoo. Once all the old drives are out of supply is it game over for everyone?

Have you considered fixing it? It's probably something simple. Bad connector, dead capacitor, that sort of thing.

If the drive is an external USB 5 1/4", the case/chassis could probably easily be swapped & that's where the power supply is located.

New drives are available from sellers here on the forums. I have 3 x models available - links to my "For sale" threads are in my signature.

It's an internal SATA drive. Did some troubleshooting plugging it into different power supplies and nothing. Was working one day, then suddenly it wasn't. No power. I will probably be reaching out to you to buy a drive or 2. Do you have any vouches you can send me? Checked the sale thread but didn't see any. Thanks.

If by "vouches", you are referring to MakeMKV discounts/codes, sorry - I do not.

Please help. I am trying to flash the following drive but running into issues.

LG BP50NB40, SVC-NB52, MFR DATE 2024-10-22

Here is the info from MakeMKV before attempting to flash:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: G:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: SIM21218G5049
Firmware date: 2121-07-08 16:03
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw data read: Possible (with patched firmware)
BD raw metadata read: Possible (with patched firmware)
Unrestricted read speed: Possible (with patched firmware)
I used SDFtool v1.3.6 and the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin firmware, and now I get the following:

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: G:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BP50NB40
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: SIM21218G5049
Firmware date: 2120-05-07 09:17
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.03
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
I am trying to flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin, but it is not working. I think there is another step or two I am supposed to take, but I am having trouble figuring that out.

EDIT: Nevermind, I was able to figure it out with a post previously made by Marty!!!

Yes, the SVC code is relevant. If SVC NB52 (look at the sticker underneath the drive), follow the steps in the first post (or the gif), substituting BP50NB40 for WP50NB40. I have pasted them below for you.

1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.

After a successful flash to the MK firmware of the drive do the crossflash:

2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up window (as per the window title text), select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed and click OPEN.
3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 (this is what I recommend) firmware in the normal firmware selection drop box (as per the window title text) then click OPEN.
4. Click START

Follow the animated GIF/video on the first page/post of the SDFtool page. You must do the recover step as shown in the video.
Thank you for the help! Much appreciated!

just saying guys my way works too as thats the easier way on mac and linux as there recover cli commands are not widely know and requires insider knowledge of the boot codes in the drive.

Vouches, not vouchers. :) I just meant anyone who can vouch for you who ordered from you. It's a lot of money to send to a stranger. That's all. It's pretty common when purchasing in Facebook groups, etc.

This one works:
https://www.bestbuy.com/product/lg-8x-e ... JXTZZL27X9

It is the BP50NB40 drive from what mine was that I ordered this week.

I have a question though.
I flashed it to the BP60NB 1.0 and it's working. I see you can also flash it to the BU40N 1.0
What is the difference between these two? Is one better than the other?

Also I flashed my drive at 1:30PM today, but it was the end of my lunch break. The 4K drive was spun up from that process that was in the tray. When I came back to my desk at 5:30PM, the drive was STILL spun up (awaiting for me to select the librarties I wanted from the disk?) Should not that disk have spun down into a sleep in 4 hours? I wasn't around my desk so I didn't realize it hadn't spun down. Should it spin down?
