Verbatim Drive Flash Question…

Post by CarlA5 » Fri Jan 30, 2026 5:05 pm

Hi all

First of all, I’d like to say a big thank you to the regular contributors here. Although this is my first post, I’ve learned a huge amount from reading through the forum, so cheers to everyone who takes the time to help others.

Recently, I purchased a Verbatim external slim drive with the intention of using it for UHD Blu-ray discs.

I followed the flashing instructions carefully. I’m using an older Mac mini and carried out the process entirely via Terminal. The process completed without any errors, and everything appeared to run as expected. However, when I reopened MakeMKV, nothing seemed to have changed. I’ve attempted the process a couple of times now, and although it reports that it completed successfully, there doesn’t appear to be any difference.

The drive itself is functioning, but I’m now seeing a message indicating that the drive region and the disc region no longer match. It still works, but performance seems much slower than before.

If anyone wouldn’t mind taking a look at the images and offering some advice, I’d really appreciate it.

Many thanks
Carl in London

You cannot attach images/files here. Host somewhere and use the image links or copy and paste text.

New drives have encrypted firmware. Did you use firmware BU40N 1.03-MK and put enc in your command? IE: -rawflash enc
Cheers :D

Aha!

Marty — you sir are an absolute legend!

You were spot on; I’d completely forgotten the 'enc' in the command. As soon as I added that, everything behaved exactly as expected.

Thanks again for taking the time to help and for the clear explanation — much appreciated. It’s people like you that make these forums such a great resource.

Regards,
Carl
