Hi
So, title says it all; I bought this unit from Amazon, and I already ripped a normal BD, but 4K HDR ones wont even get recognized.
MakeMKV says:
Información de unidad de disco
Nombre del SO del dispositivo: D:
Perfil actual: BD-ROM
Fabricante: PIONEER
Producto: BD-RW BDR-TD05
Revisión: 2.02
Número de serie: (I dont think it´s needed)
Fecha del firmware: 2015-09-04
Marcas de cifrado bus: 1B
Highest AACS version: 36
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8211
Firmware version: ID72
Can this unit really play/rip BD UHD? What about that post claiming all Pioneers will be LibreDrive supported? When that happens, will I need special HW to flash it, and will flashing make it able to work with BD UHD?
Do you think I should better return this drive to Amazon?
Thanks!
Pioneer TechPulse 120 (BDR-TD05), what can I do with it?

I don't think this will ever be able to read UHD discs even if you can enable libredrive.kelalo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 10:58 pmHi

Thanks for your reply! I bough a Verbatim 43888, which reading here I found it was a safe bet; Pioneer? Out of the box. LG? easy flashing
I'll use a known pretty good usb-c cable instead of the one that comes with it, both for flashing and ripping my library
This tuesday it should arrive ^^

I got myself the Verbatim 43888, it has arrived today.
LG unit. BU40N. Flashed without any issues using GUI sdf flasher (from the guide) and it´s corresponding bin.
Ripping Matrix 4 UHD. Max speed seems to be 6x (directly connected via USB C with a Ugreen cable), 25.8MB/s
It took two tries after flashing for MakeMKV to read the disc (AACS error. Maybe I just needed to reopen MakeMKV, as I did), and it made some fun (not worrying) noises in one of them, but now it is working.
Bought from Amazon Warehouse on Spain.
