Track #3 of type S_TEXT/UTF8 in MKV file is not recognized

After adding a srt subtitle file to a MKV file with MKVmerge I get the following on Makemkv

Track #3 of type S_TEXT/UTF8 in MKV file is not recognized and was skipped.

What can be wrong?

MakeMKV can't handle this format. MakeMKV should always be able to open MKV files produced by MakeMKV itself, plus "most popular codecs". Text subtitles are unfortunately not on the list. MakeMKV will never be a full replacement for mkvmerge.
