Can't rip Shelby American/24 Hour War

Post by pboggini »

First off, thanks to all the devs for all this work! I just joined this forum as I've been inspired to so some ripping and I've been able to rip a number of DVDs and a few Blu Rays! I've been reading a ton of posts and I think I'm at a point where I need some advice.

I have this 2 disk set from Chassy Media called "Ford vs Ferrari" but it's not the normal movie it's 2 disks, one called "Shelby American" and the other called "The 24 Hour War". When I insert a disk, it will spin and spin and spin and then finally get spit back out. I'm running MacOS 15.7.3, I have two LG drives both with LibreDrive enabled. So I think I'm good there. I've been looking around and it seems that MakeMKV should dump a file somewhere I can submit? I looked thru all the directories and can't find anything that looks like a file I should submit. Since MacOS never sees the disk, I don't know how I can pull anything off of it. I've downloaded the keydb.cfg and put it in /Users/<myusername>/Library/MakeMKV and I get the same thing.

I've been able to rip all three Back to the Future's and the real Ford vs Ferrari movie just fine but these Blu Rays aren't readable at all using MakeMKV on a mac using these two LG drives.

I'm hoping someone can point me to something I can do to help get these Blu Rays readable. Both load and play just fine in a Samsung Blu Ray player that's probably 8 years old or so.

If a disc spins endlessly in an optical drive that has a good track record of ripping discs, it generally means the optical drive can't 'see' the disc. That usually means the disc needs to be cleaned.

Lots of discs, even brand-new fresh out of the package discs have an almost invisible film on them that makes ripping them hard. It can be left over lubricants from the manufacturing process or deposits from off-gassing of the plastic case. I generally clean a disc with warm water and liquid dish soap. I lightly use my wet, soapy fingertip to lightly move back and forth from the inner hole to the outer edge via the shortest path. I work my way around the disc then thoroughly rinse all the soap off. I dry the label side with a towel and dry the data side by using a can of air to blast the water right off the disc. Once you're sure the disc is completely dry, try it again in your optical drive. (It really does have to be dry because the drive will spin the disc so fast any water will get flung off into the innards of your drive!)
