Strange "bug".
I have a DVD of Rush Hour 3 for which MakeMKV will not rip the widescreen (2.35:1) version of the film. When one slects the "Play Movie" option on this DVD, a submenu pops up that allows selection of either fullscreen or widescreen versions. MakeMKV finds two feature titles. One is MPEG2, the other is MPEG1. The MPEG1 fails if selected. The MPEG2 rips, but only in fullscreen 1.33:1 format. I have tried it using protection DVD auto and cellfull. Cellfull seems to find two titles of versions (MPEG2 and MPEG1) of the main feature, but neither of the MPEG2 rip to widescreen.
I did a trial of DVDfab. It does find a title it calls Rush Hour 3.featurettes, which does turn out to be the 2.35:1 version of the film. Even it does not find that title as the main feature. But that seems to indicate the disc is not bad or dirty.
I'm sure it's just a strange/unique DVD structure, but if there's any tips on how I can get MakeMKV to rip the widescreen version from this disc, I'd appreciate it.
Rush Hour 3 DVD
Re: Rush Hour 3 DVD
Solved:
I had to open the disc in manual mode and tell MakeMKV to rip title 22. If anyone else has this issue with this disc, under view, preferences, general tab, check expert mode. Under the "source" you will now have a check box for "open DVD manually". Check that. Then when you open the disc, you will get another dialogue that allows you to enter 22 to have that title ripped, and that is the widescreen version of this movie on this disc.
