Dolby Vision fallback on UHD discs in MakeMKV
Dolby Vision fallback on UHD discs in MakeMKV
When ripping UHD Blu-ray discs with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 using MakeMKV, is there a way to force MakeMKV to always keep HDR10 as a fallback track if the Dolby Vision layer is present, and how does this behavior differ between Profile 7 FEL and MEL discs?

Re: Dolby Vision fallback on UHD discs in MakeMKV
You really should ask any DV releated questions in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=18602, however, UHD rips always have HDR10 as fallback. It is not a separate track. HDR10 is part of the main video stream. The DV is a separate track. Therefore, if your player or TV or whatever is not DV capable (or not compatible with the DV profile used) it will play as HDR10.Arielbr wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 9:37 amWhen ripping UHD Blu-ray discs with both Dolby Vision and HDR10 using MakeMKV, is there a way to force MakeMKV to always keep HDR10 as a fallback track if the Dolby Vision layer is present, and how does this behavior differ between Profile 7 FEL and MEL discs?
HDR10 has nothing to do with FEL or MEL. They are the DV enhancement layer types. Please read the thread linked above for a better understanding of DV.
Cheers
