Hello,
I know this question has probably been answered 100s of times. Sorry, not having any luck so far. Slim uhd player was not plug and play, followed some advice to use sdftool and changed firmware to lg slim bu40n 1.03. seemed to read both bluray and uhd disks but errors when i try to backup the disk, playback starts in vlc but freezes. I appreciate any help. I know I am not far off from getting this right but must be missing something. Any advice?

As I said, the advice i found led me to flash the firmware. followed it. then errors while trying to back up a disk. seen one post with a similar problem, (but not the same) but only unhelpful responses like this one. If you don't care to help then piss off. For anyone else who might have some useful advice, here is some info of how makemkv reads my drive.

Clean the discs. UHD discs pretty much need to be cleaned, especially when new in box, 99% of the time.THEOB1JAKOBI wrote: ↑Mon Jan 12, 2026 1:14 amAs I said, the advice i found led me to flash the firmware. followed it. then errors while trying to back up a disk. seen one post with a similar problem, (but not the same) but only unhelpful responses like this one. Also ensure the drive is getting enough constant power. The Verbatim's are quite sensitive to power fluctuations. It is best to use USB ports (USB-C if possible) direct from the motherboard or an AC self-powered USB hub of at least 24w. Do not use case ports.
Cheers
