I found elsewhere on the forum it does not with this particular drive and firmware... Seems firmware is not possible to patch.

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2026
The Pioneer drives with post 11/2022 firmware gained libredrive support back in November. When did you last try a disc?defjam3 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 10:06 amThanks for that. I tried a disc and it failed. Mentioning libredrive wasn't supported. Is there a way of testing that?MartyMcNuts wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 6:56 amThat needs nothing. It is already libredrive enabled and is a UHD drive so just insert a UHD disc and start ripping it!defjam3 wrote: Tue Jan 06, 2026 5:41 am G'Day all.
Apologies if this has been answered, I'm new to all of this. Have been using MakeMKV for ages, love it. Have a Pioneer BD-RW BDR-S12U looking to see if there is a firmware for it for UHD ripping. Reading this forum the impression I get is I'm out of luck, needs to be firmware 1.02 not 1.04 as I have. Checking if that is the case.
Drive details:
Drive Information
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-S12U
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: CDDL007444WL
Firmware date: 2022-12-20
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 76
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8F01
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-212T
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.04/ID43
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Your drive is a UHD model and libredrive is enabled, so nothing to be done. It is good to go. If you are unable to rip a disc, paste the log window text.
Cheers

I hope I'm not out of luck here. The Amazon post I got this drive from wasnt very clear with some of the label information. I wanted to verify if my drive is compatible to be flashed before I rip apart my PC to use this drive. Any info I can get is greatly appreciated. Let me know if there is anything else you may need form me.

See the SDFtool Flasher thread - first page.
Download the tool & the "All you need" firmware pack. I *think* it's the DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin for that drive (to cross-flash it). Answer is in that thread - search the thread.

On mac, I was running the latest version for DVDs but I have a drive I want to flash, so I just downgraded. Opening version 1.17.7 on the latest macos is giving this error on launch:
> Fatal error occurred, program will now exit.
Does anyone know if it is ok to flash on 1.18+ on mac?

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2026
I have a H&L BH16NS55 instead of the LG branded one, are they one and the same? Can the firmware be used on it? MakeMKV tells me this:
Drive Information
OS device name: B:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS55
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: KLGP14F2745
Firmware date: 2120-04-21 10:49
Bus encryption flags: 17
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.05
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
I don't care about ripping 4K BR discs, just being able top play them.

Flashing seems to work, it does take quite a while for my PC to recognize a 4K disc (the 2nd time it sounded like an engine reving up high) and MPC-HC gave me an error about MakeMKV
