Re: SDFtool Flasher
I just downloaded the flasher and have a question about redirecting where it looks for make mkv. Currently on my pc I've stopped downloading things into my C drive unless it's absolutely necessary so when I finished installing the SDF tool flasher it tells me to install Make MKV. Is there any way to change it's hunting path or do I just need to install make mkv onto my C Drive?
Currently make mkv 1.18.2 is installed in D:\Programs\Makemkv.

No. Just install MakeMKV in the default location then remove it once done.argonassassin wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 9:09 pmI just downloaded the flasher and have a question about redirecting where it looks for make mkv. I don't know if this would work but you might even be able to just copy the MakeMKV directory to "C:\Program Files (x86)" then delete it when you are finished.

Re: SDFtool Flasher
In case the information is helpful/valuable to anyone, this part above is still relevant for this drive so huge thanks to MartyMcNuts for including it!MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 1:39 amUPDATE - 21/12/2021:
The latest version of the SDFtool Flasher has a checkbox option to flash the boot loader with the main firmware to the drive, although, currently there's really no need to use it.
For the moment, to flash the BP50NB40 SVC:NB52, using the latest SDFtool Flasher, follw the steps below:
This is a multi-step procedure. Watch the gif below, then watch it again!!
1. Flash the drive to BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK.
After a successful flash to the MK firmware of the drive do the crossflash:
2. Select the RECOVERY option and in the pop up window (as per the window title text), select the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware that you just flashed and click OPEN.
3. Select the BP60NB10 1.00-MK or BU40N 1.00 firmware in the normal firmware selection drop box (as per the window title text) then click OPEN.
4. Click START
Here's a visual aid for you:
![]()
In short:
I bought a brand new BP50NB40 (SVC NB52) with a build date of October 2025.
I loaded the BP50NB40 (NB50) 1.03-MK firmware, then tried to use the drive (silly me!) and it did not read. Just made bad noises.
I then followed the remaining steps, loading BU40N 1.03, and it was successful.
Pro-tip: Follow the GIF!
After that, it worked just as it should. Currently reading at 5.2X
Cheers!

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.
I recently purchased a Verbatim 6888 optical drive and attempted to use the SDFtool Flasher to flash the firmware. The internal drive is the BU40N model. I have attempted to back up several of my UHD discs but they have all failed. Can anyone check my drive information to verify that I have successfully enabled LibreDrive?

I suspect that you're correct. I have tried several clean UHD discs and they all behave the same way. 20 min in they start spinning intermittently as if they pausing or having trouble. The Verbatim 43888 drive does not have a separate power supply. It came with a USB C to USB A cable and a USB A to C adapter. I used the adapter and I also tried a straight Usb C to C cable. Same errors.nicholfd wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 2:12 amProbably power (my personal experience with this model).Noob123 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 1:35 amHere's the full error report:Billycar11 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 05, 2026 11:46 pm

No, you aren't, not by a long stretch. The original versions came with a native UHD Pioneer drive inside. The current versions come with an LG BU40N, which needs flashing with SDFTool Flasher.Noob123 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 4:29 amDo you have a link?nicholfd wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 3:52 amOn Amazon you can buy a USB cable that has 2 x USB connections on the same end, one for data/power & the other for additional power.Noob123 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 3:23 am

Re: SDFtool Flasher
That was my assumption. It has already been flashed. I am wondering if those who have already flashed this model has experienced a similar issue or if they were able to read UHD discs with the supplied USB cable without any issues. It would also be helpful to know if anyone has used a duplex USB cable with this drive before.Mr_Orange wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 4:49 amNo, you aren't, not by a long stretch. Re: SDFtool Flasher
First thing to do when getting read errors is to clean the disc(s), even if they look pristine. If that still doesn't help, then look at the power. The Verbatims can be a bit power hungry. Don't use PC case ports. Use USB ports (USB-C if possible) direct from the motherboard if you can, otherwise get yourself an AC self-powered hub of at least 30w. This is especially true with laptops as often laptops don't supply enough constant power to the USB ports.Noob123 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 5:12 amThat was my assumption. It has already been flashed.
