Hello,
I purchased a WH16NS40 from eBay thinking I’d be able to use it for HD/UHD blurays however it ended up being a MT1939 drive and was entirely misrepresented in the listing. I’ve failed at flashing FW and it wasn’t until afterwards and reading the forums I realized this. So my drive is in a limbo state and ultimately I want to correct that so it’s of some use and then grab myself a solid UHD capable drive.
If anyone’s had experience with this or is knowledgeable on this topic and had advice or suggestions I desperately would appreciate it. I’m brand new to this and should’ve started here prior to purchasing.
As a newbie I made a mistake…advice?

The first post of the SDFtool flasher thread, at the bottom, has the old WH16NS40 firmware file. Use the recover method with this firmware and you should be able to recover it. THEN RETURN IT!!brocja wrote: ↑Sun Dec 28, 2025 4:28 pmHello,
