Asus BW-16D1HT with firmware 1.01 but made in dec 2023

#1 Post by anonymous_47389 » Thu Jul 31, 2025 1:59 am

Hi. So I know this question about 1.01 firmware for the asus BW-16D1HT has been asked before and the answer is drives with 1.01 firmware don't support UHD and will brick if update, but It was my understanding that only old drives came with this firmware. I just bought a used drive and it says on the label "Manufactured December 2023". Is it possible this drive's hardware supports UHD bluerays and was just flashed with a really old firmware. If that's the case can I upgrade it again? Is it more likely a scam and someone just slapped a new label on an old drive? The return window closes august 1st so I'll probably just return it.

Here is the info from makemkv:
```
Drive Information
OS device name: F:
worth noting that there is a 4k UHD disk inserted when I copied this info.
Well, there's no way for us to tell. We would need to see photo's of the drive and it's labels to have a chance of helping you. Better to just return it.
Cheers :D
Since this came up on google and helped me determine the "new" drive I purchased was a refurbished old drive with fake labels (and MUCH newer manufacturing date), I thought I'd provide some more info. If you see a drive with this type of metal housing (rounded square with a circle label in the middle), it is absolutely not the original and you should stay away. I've seen LG WH16NS60 drives on ebay with this same housing as well. Its hard to believe someone put in the effort to make fake labels (even warranty stickers!) like this but here we are. The label will have a different serial number than the one reported by the drive as well, so these are definitely not officially refurbished drives.
yes this is correct except the part about the sn of the drive even regular real lg drives the sn on sticker vs the drive itself is different
