Hi I just bought the lord of the rings extended edition box set. The movies are each split onto 2 discs, I was wondering what was the best way to turn the 2 mkvs into one larger file
Cheers
Merging 2 disc movies
Re: Merging 2 disc movies
probably mkvmerge from mkvtoolnix.
Re: Merging 2 disc movies
I've used mkvmerge to do this before.
Make sure the streams are exactly the same in both MKVs (languages, etc.) and rename the chapters in the second part so they follow on from the first. Then in mkvmerge Add the first part and Append the second, and then remux.

I knew it seemed that sometimes the chapters were appended, other times they were not - I never thought the chapter names might be the reason. Thanks for the tip.paulster wrote:rename the chapters in the second part so they follow on from the first.

Re: Merging 2 disc movies
Hi, could you explain how to adjust chapter number please
Re: Merging 2 disc movies
Use the chapter editor in MKVtoolnix. You need to ensure that the chapter numbers in the second file you want to join are higher than the chapter numbers in the first part.
So, for example, if your files are as follows:
File 1: Chapter 01 -> Chapter 10
File 2: Chapter 01 -> Chapter 12
then you need to edit the chapters in the second file to be named Chapter 11 -> Chapter 22.
If you don't do that before attempting to merge the files then the duplicate chapter names will be ignored and you'll lose the chapters from your second file.

Does MakeMKV has a tool where you can combine all videos in a single straight movie? I am new to this software and I don't know where to find it.

Is it okay to use Power ISO for giving different parts to your video before creating another MKV file as a whole?
