Hi!
I've been going through a bunch of 4K discs over the last couple days that are new for me and ran into an issue.
My process is that I'll rip to an .iso, ( used to use AnyDVD and now using XReveal), and then use makemkv for the individual files and various muxing. This way, I can play most discs with PowerDVD with the menus quickly until I get everything ripped the way I want.
It will rip to .iso but doesn't remove the encryption specifically for this handful 4K disks. Specifically, I'm getting "Bus encryption is not disabled by MakeMKV LibreDrive!" under the "LibreDrive Information" section. I've not had this issue with about a dozen other 4k disks.
I reinstalled MakeMKV in case something got misaligned, but now I'm thinking they're newer releases and either I need to update the firmware for the drive, or maybe it's a libredrive update that's needed?
So I rebooted and used the Backup option in MakeMKV - and it failed. "Scsi error - copy protection key exchange failure - key not present". "Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive". And I have an AACS dump file. The disc I'm looking at right now has AACS2.0/C v76 Protection. MakeMKV is v1.18.2, registered.
What am I doing wrong?

Just found out about updating the KeyDB from this download: http://fvonline-db.bplaced.net/
No change.

So submit the dump file via email to svq@makemkv.com so the decryption keys for that disc can be added to MakeMKV's internal hashed keys.Galaxy_Stranger wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 4:38 amHi!

No change.
Additionally, if the dump was created with a non-Pioneer drive, you can also sumit a request in the Public KeyDB Submissions thread to possibly have the decryption keys added to the public KeyDB.
Cheers

Re: AACS2.0/C v76 - Can't read AACS VID from disc
LibreDrive is completely indifferent to newer AACS revisions or disc protection updates. That independence and permanent aspect of the bypass really is the highlight of LibreDrive. From the perspective of LibreDrive, there is no difference between MKBv1 from 2006 and MKBv82 from 2025.Galaxy_Stranger wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 4:38 amI reinstalled MakeMKV in case something got misaligned, but now I'm thinking they're newer releases and either I need to update the firmware for the drive, or maybe it's a libredrive update that's needed?
When you see the "Can't read AACS VID from disc..." message it means the generated disc dump is entirely useless as it does not contain the VID (volume ID). There is no point emailing or submitting these invalid/incomplete disc dump files.Galaxy_Stranger wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 4:38 amSo I rebooted and used the Backup option in MakeMKV - and it failed. Have you ever been able to backup a 4K/UHD disc with your drive?
Can you post the drive info text shown by MakeMKV? It sounds like LibreDrive is either not being activated or not supported for your current drive.

Re: AACS2.0/C v76 - Can't read AACS VID from disc
I've ripped about a dozen 4K discs, ( I think the newest one would be the 2024 release of Nosferatu ), and this is the first problem I've had and it's the same error with the current 5 discs I'm working with right now.
From MakeMKV:

Ok, I just tried re-ripping a disc I ripped 6 months ago - and I get the same error, etc.
SOMETHING changed. I have no idea what it is. It's ripping Blurays just fine.

Re: AACS2.0/C v76 - Can't read AACS VID from disc
If I had to guess, I'd say the issue is that you seem to passing the drive through to your Windows VM as an optical drive (Manufacturer: VBOX), rather than a native USB device. This would explain why basic aspects of the MakeMKV functionality, such as firmware identification, can occur whilst the trickier parts of LibreDrive fail.Galaxy_Stranger wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 6:55 amFrom MakeMKV:-=[ EDIT ]=-Drive Information

Turn off the existing optical drive passthrough setting. Once this has been done, passthrough the USB device instead via the global menu Devices->USB->BP60NB10. That should allow LibreDrive to work properly in your guest VM.
