Dump Submitted - Arcane Season 2 4K (Collector's Edition 4K)

Post by CoffeeDrinker »

I'm not sure if these are exactly the same discs as the 4K Steelbook.

This is what popped up on my log:

"Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Saved AACS dump file as /Users/user/Library/MakeMKV/MKB20_v82_ARCANE_SEASON_2_-_DISC_1_FFC6.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc"

I've never had to submit a dump before, but I will send an email out about it.

Dump submitted for all three discs, and sent it to the email. I'm sorry I'm not tech savvy and I'm not entirely sure how all of this works.

I was supposed to submit the .tgz files unzipped, right?

Just attach a .tgz file to an email and send it. .tgz files are usually compressed tar files. Since they're already compressed trying to compress it again with zip won't really help. :)

Well, I sent out the email yesterday. I hope they get it. At first uncompressed it, and found the file in the folder called 'dump.' So I sent that, then I realized that since it's a tv season boxed set, I should do the same for the other discs. Then I thought I didn't send the file properly. So the email thread for me had like 5 messages. :( (yes, I did eventually send the .tgz files)

So hopefully they'll get it. Just to be clear, how long do people typically wait after submitting a dump, and how do these updates work? I'm so sorry, I don't quite know how this process works.

You won't get a response via email. Historically, it is has generally only been 2 or 3 days for a hashed key to be created. With AACS v82 on regular blu-rays, the volume of keys needing to be generated has gone up and the time for keys to be created has grown longer.

Assuming your installation is configured to access the internet (it is by default, but can be turned off in preferences) and assuming you can access the necessary server (located in Russia currently) MakeMKV will download the latest keys when it encounters a disc it doesn't have keys for. Just try your disc(s) again in a few days. You should see a message in the long about downloading the latest HKs when it does so. Or, a message that the download failed, which is a different problem to solve. If there's no message, then there were no new keys to download (they get published in batches).

In the meantime, you could download and configure the public keyDB. It is an alternative source of decryption keys that MakeMKV also supports. Dumps from Pioneer drives aren't that useful to them to add keys, but any brand of drive can make use of existing keys from the keyDB. The first post in the Public KeyDB Disc Submission thread has more details. (The short, short version is download and unzip the keyDB.cfg file and put in the same directory MakeMKV it putting the .tgz dump files - this is MakeMKV Data Directory as configured in preferences. Restart MakeMKV and try your disc.)

MakeMKV can use both sources of keys, the built-in hashed keys and the keyDB. The keyDB is often updated faster than MakeMKV's hashed keys, but it requires extra work on your part as it doesn't automatically update itself.

So my drive is a Pioneer, so I think I'll just have to wait then? I'll try to rip them in a few days, I suppose. Even though I used Pioneer, was it still useful for me to send out that email?
