If anyone was having trouble with the BDR-XD08 and getting an error like
Code: Select all
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT ESTABLISHED' occurred while issuing SCSI command AD010..080002400 to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom1'
Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
consider using the USB-A cable that came with the drive instead of a USB-C or Thunderbolt cable no matter what the rating is lmao.

That has nothing to do with that
Its either your sdf was not yet updated yet and the drive required a reboot and unplugging the cable and using the other one did that or you had a power issue
Nothing to do with the drive cable

Billy,
Recently bought a XD08B from you, so far unable to rip anything.
Getting Scsi error - illegal request: cannot write medium, which maybe a power issue? I'm trying different cables/power sources in the meantime
I noticed Makemkv is saying drive firmware date is 2024-10-09, and Libre drive possible but not enabled. I thought firmware date should be much earlier than that? I've not updated firmware to my knowledge, just plugged in and tried ripping.
Sorry, new to this but trying to research as well.

Did you try using the cable that came with the drive & connecting all the USB connections? Most slim-line drives require 2 x USB connections to the computer for data & extra power. make sure the "Y" cable has all 3 x ends connected.
If the drive you purchased came with an AC adapter for power, make sure you are using that adapter *and* the supplied USB cable.
Thanks,
Frank

I was wondering, if I set up MakeMKV to play BDs on VLC, will that ruin my drive from ripping?
Thank you for the drive, it’s got my plex set up fully going!

Hello, Billycar11.
I have emailed you about purchasing a drive from you, but I have a question about payment that I didn't want to email you about because I didn't want to start a new chain, as per the 2nd step in the order process. I also messaged you on Reddit, but something borked, so I registered here instead.
I wanted to use the PayPal option of paying with my credit card without creating a PayPal account, which I don't currently have. Is this okay, or do I need to make a PayPal account? If it's absolutely necessary, then I will make an account with PayPal.

I answered you about this on Reddit already and email would have been the appropriate place in the same chain.
But yes that's why guest checkout is there with the pay with credit or debit card option
I see no reason why you not think it's ok it a payment option in my PayPal store it's all fine

Hello Billycar11,
For some reason, I wasn't getting your message on Reddit. I wasn't sure if having a PayPal account was a requirement to purchase a drive from you. I didn't want to eff up the 6th step, so I made a PayPal account, just in case, and then made the order. Hope everything went okay.

it not the actual drive model i send you an xd08 the fw is from an xd08u makemkv now supports all UHD pioneers even on the latest fw
What do you mean MakeMKV now supports all UHD Pioneers even on latest FW? Like if I find any Pioneer UHD drive on FB Marketplace I can purchase that and have you flash it? Looks like remote flashing is $25. Or would it need to be sent to you?
How do these XD08's compare to the other models you don't have in stock? Are these XD08's somehow not as ideal or not as good in any way when ripping compared to the BDR-S13U's or BDR-X13U's? I'm new to all this sorry and I just want to buy once and not buy a lesser version then realize I should have purchased a better one like mentioned in the last sentence but I don't know if they are actually better when it comes to ripping or just more premium quality physical product? Thank you.
Exactly what I said makemkv supports all UHD pioneers out of the box for UHD ripping.
But non uhd pioneers are still not cross flashable to UHD after 12/22 unless purchased from a flasher.
Remote flashing is still not possible after 12/22 fw too
Ordered a Pioneer BDR-XD08B from @Billycar11 and received quickly. Worked right out the box using MakeMKV to rip my first couple 4k drives I borrowed from a friend to verify functionality. Didn't have to do anything myself to make it work. Thanks @Billycar11 for putting this out there for us.

I'm planning on ordering Pioneer BDR-XD08B, but is that drive compatible with bluray as well as UHD disks? Are there limitations with it that is good to know before ordering? Thank you in advance!

Works with CD/DVD/BD/UHD discs.
Cheers
