Hello Marty,

Just to let you know that I have flashed my Verbatim a total of 4 times now as I was trying out my lifetime AnydvdHD and I setlled on your BU40N 1.0 firmware after listening to your explanation on your provided firmwares. I manily deal with BD and DVD and very rarely touch UHD. I really appreciate your work and that of your whole development team! Happy holidays! Cheers

Sorry for the newbie questions, but I was wondering what happens after you send your firmware dump to support@makemkv.com?

A couple of weeks ago I sent mine in from my Pioneer BDR-X13JX revision 1.04, which was one of the drives listed as needing a dump in the first post, but then I never heard anything back or saw MKV download a new sdf.bin file.

I wasn't sure if that was usual or if there was something wrong with the one I sent it.

I have never received any feedback when submitting svq or firmware dumps. I usually wait a day or two (sometimes takes a little longer) & just try again.

Make sure your MakeMKV app has internet access enabled in the settings. The new download is automatic and sometimes happens pretty quickly - easy to miss.

Make sure the drive has been power cycled & try a disc again.

Thanks! I made sure internet access was enabled, but didn't see any download, so I manually downloaded the sdf.bin file. I then power-cycled the drive, put a disc in, and fired up MakeMKV. I watched the sdf.bin file disappear from my MakeMKV folder, but the date on my _private_data.tar didn't change, so I don't think the sdf.bin file contained any updates?

So I went ahead and emailed support with my firmware dump into support again.

Right now, MakeMKV shows the following:

Drive Information
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-X13JX
Revision: 1.04
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2023-08-01
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled

Hi there!

I was testing the new MakeMKV 1.18.2 for Windows using a Pioneer BDR-X12EBK drive I had on hand. Unfortunately, it's running a 2023 firmware, and I'm still hoping it will one day support UHD, but at the moment, it doesn't even seem ready for LibreDrive.

When I connect it with the new SDF drives, MakeMKV keeps saying there's no SDF input for the drive and generates a dump file. I've sent the file to support@makemkv.com, but the file size is smaller than 1KB. Shouldn't it be larger?

I'm sharing the MakeMKV information and log for more details:

In that post, Mike said a firmware dump is around 2MB.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's what I was afraid of.

Does anyone know how I could extract that complete dump so I can send it?
I've seen references to the "sdftool" utility, but from what I've seen, it doesn't work with Pioneer devices.

Sorry for these newbie questions, and thanks again.

FWIW, when MakeMKV made a dump for my Pioneer BD-RW-BDR-X13JX that file was just about 1MB. When I unzipped it though, it contained another file, "dump_full_PIONEER_BD-RW__BDR-X13JX_1.04_CJDL000525WL.tar," which was 4.3MB in size.

I'm not sure if that's correct or not. I've not heard anything back, and MakeMKV hasn't downloaded a new SDF.bin file since I emailed it in.

Before you do anything, look inside the dump. When I had one, the file inside was 4MB. They just compress really well.
Cheers :D

Oh, yes, I did that and I found a file "dump_info_PIONEER_BD-RW___BDR-X12_1.07_AFDL000137WL.tar" which is 3Kb.
I was expecting a "dump_full_XXXXX" file but it seems the MakeMKV is not reading it.

Personally, I've never had a drive that MakeMKV has made a dump for, so I'm just guessing. I suggest you try removing _private_data.tar, any .tgz files, keydb.cfg (if you have it), and sdf.bin (if you have it) from your MakeMKV data directory. You don't have to (and probably shouldn't) delete those files, just move them out of the folder. You can leave the .xml and .conf files. Then I would make sure to power cycle your drive and probably reboot your computer just for completeness. If the drive is inside your computer, power your computer off for a few minutes just to make sure the drive gets power cycled.

Then start everything up, put a blu-ray in your drive, let the OS see it, then launch MakeMKV. I believe MakeMKV will redownload everything it needs and it should try again to produce a firmware dump for your drive.

If that doesn't work, you might have to download sdf.bin manually, put it in the data directory, and restart MakeMKV.

MartyMcNuts might have a better idea of what to try than me. I'm just making an educated guess. :)

Thank you both for your advice! The drive is an external one and has been unplugged for hours. After that, I did:
1. Cleared the ".MakeMKV" directory.
2. Plugged in the drive with a br in it.
3. Waited for the OS to see it.
4. Launched MakeMKV.

The result has been the same as before. Same files and same log.
The only difference happened inside the "_private_data.tar", probably because the current sfd.bin is now newer than two days ago.

After that, I did:
5. Unplugged the drive for several minutes.
6. Downloaded, manually, the file from https://www.makemkv.com/svq/sdf.bin and placed it into the ".MakeMKV" directory.
7. Renamed the "dump_FW" file to force a re-dump.
8. Plugged in the drive with a br in it.
9. Waited for the OS to see it.
10. Launched MakeMKV.

Again, same log and same dump.
Any other ideas? : )

Have you tried to delete makemkv folder where the fw dump and sdf bin is located ? It should recreate folder and make full dump once you run mmkv again and insert uhd disk.
I had a same issue with my drive. It worked afterwards
