SDFtool Flasher

Hi, my newly purchased a Verbatim Slimline drive currently cant rip certain DVDs and 4k Blurrays. A few do work, but I mostly use this specifc drives for 4k Blurrays and none of them worked.

Now, first of all, I could not find out if this drive is encrypted, and neither certain if the flashing shown here will work to enable LibreDrive. I downloaded the "All you need firmware pack" and the SDF Tool flasher already. Within the Firmware pack is a LG Slim BU40N, I assume that is the firmware required for this specifc drive. Am I missing something or coud I get started flashing using the flasher with the LG Slim Bu40N Firmware to enable LibreDrive?

Furthermore, from the list of encryped firmware I am uncertain if this drive is in fact coming with an encrypted firmware because I could not find the exact same one in the list but similar enough.

Excuse me for the silly questions. I would prefer not to instantly brick my newly purchased drive, given I already own an other drive which is not for 4k Blurrays and just the normal resolution.

As the drive is manufactured in 2024 the firmware is encrypted. SDFTool flasher will set this oprion automatically and you should flash BU40N 1.03 as recommended firmware. If you are using other ripping software besides Makemkv you should flash 1.00. The files are in the "all you need firmware pack" in the SDFTool post by Marty.

Would I be right in thinking the problem is the cable I'm got for it?

Your case is junk get a recommend adapter from the guide below and a sata to slim sata adapter and it will work

I have a BP60NB10 drive that I flashed and it was working great. Drive stated having issues reading discs, so LG said I can send it back to get it replaced since it is under warranty. But in order to do that I need to flash the original firmware back on it. Is that something I can do? If so, how? I was looking at the recover option, but when it comes to selecting the correct new firmware, I didn't know what I would choose.

Any help would be appreciated

All working as hoped. However, if you try to flash the drive while the disk drive tray is ejected SDFTool throws an error with an error number. Would it be possible to check the status of the drive tray and throw a more human readable error if it's currently out?

Returned the drive and replaced it with a Verbatim 43888 ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07MTP9VKX )
Much much nicer drive and comes with the cables and adapter options.

Easy firmware backup then install of DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin
Currently testing with our Apollo11 UHD disk and it's doing its thing.

Um, no. It is just a GUI for the sdftool CLI so whatever error it spits out is it.

NOTE: If the GUI looks a bit deformed (happens on a 4k monitor), you can right click the exe and select properties. In the compatibility tab, click "Change high DPI settings" then under "High DPI scaling override" tick the box and select "System (Enhanced)" in the dropbox.

Thank you Marty, I finally received my UHD blu rays from storage and the Buffalo flashed drive works a treat - faster than expected. I really do appreciate all the work you do! Be lucky.
