Is MakeMKV still functional
Is MakeMKV still functional
Just installed app via Truenas/Linux and its failing. Reads disc, pulls meta, gets all good info, but then fails. Something about the current beta key being expired, and this forum ( viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053 ) shows it expired last month, with no updated API key to test with. Is there supposed to be any updated key coming out or should I be looking for another bit of software?
Re: Is MakeMKV still functional
The key in the beta version expired November 30th. You need to install a new beta key (not issued yet), or set your system date back to when the key you have was valid to start the program.
MakeMKV is still functional, with a current beta key, or with a registered key; I've been running it for hours today, re-ripping my entire video collection (someone stole my media servers).

There is a new key now for Dec thru Feb 1 2026
Re: Is MakeMKV still functional
Thanks for the reply. Does this mean right now the software won't work unless users purchase a key, or do we know if MakeMKV is planning to issue a new beta key? It would be tough to purchase fully with how the app doesn't work. Talk about bad timing on our part, huh?...
Re: Is MakeMKV still functional
Mike has been issuing beta keys for well over 17 years. Will he continue? That's up to him.
A lot of people seem to refuse to buy it, simply because "he'll come through with a key!!!", and complain bitterly if he doesn't.
What I've often wondered was why people complain about the cost, when the alternatives are all much more expensive? MakeMKV is a one-time purchase (assuming you don't lose your key, and never ask Mike to pull it up for you). At least two other similar products I've seen are more expensive PER YEAR (yes, they have annual renewals). I'm a cheap-ass bastard, yet I also bought in a LONG time ago.
