I just want to make sure I am understanding correctly.

Based on the SDF update November 2025 I see that there are a bunch of BDR-209D firmware versions listed:

Code: Select all

PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.10-44290838-8600ID61-20130910
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.20-90EB76E2-8600ID61-20140408
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.30-6901C899-8600ID61-20141205
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.31-8CF13BF3-8600ID61-20150525
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.32-F3AD8FFF-8600ID61-20150825
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.33-CC733748-8600ID61-20151209
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.34-FCF25369-8600ID61-20160425
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.50-7F6800F0-8600ID61-20171221
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.50-F67F9D64-8601ID61-20171221
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.51-148709AB-8600ID61-20180508
PIONEER-BD-RW___BDR-209D-1.51-664813FF-8601ID61-20180508
Would this mean that a a BDR-209DBK (I am going to assume that BK means black) manufactured in 2022 it should now work?
For standard blu-ray, yes. For UHD no. If the firmware is pre 12/2022 it can be cross-flashed to a UHD model firmware.
I would be looking to UHD. Is the cross flashing something that I could do myself? I have previous flashed LG drives.

If the drive is manufactured before 12/2022 would that mean the firmware is okay? Would the version be on the label or it is something that would need to be dumped from the drive?
You need to post your Makemkv info. Afterwards you will receive instructions for flashing your drive for UHDs.

So noted. For this model is there something to look for to make sure the firmware allows for flashing? Is the manufacture date sufficient?

I don’t have it yet otherwise I would. Trying to avoid getting stuck with a drive that I can’t use.

My crystal ball seems to be too dull. Get the drive and if it has firmware younger than 12/2022 it's fine. If not, return it.

Hey @Mossman1120, got your DM. Sorry, did not have notifications on. Did you get a drive?

No, the firmware is post 11/2022 so cannot be cross-flashed for UHD compatibility but you can enable libredrive for standard blu-ray discs. Just download the latest SDF.bin and put it in the MakeMKV data directory then restart MakeMKV.
Cheers :D

Thank you for the swift reply! I've missed forums haha

Will this firmware date eventually be possible to be cross-flashed? And I did add the sdf bin file, should the info panel be saying that libredrive is enabled now?

Once you add the SDF.bin file to the MakeMKV data directory (where the dumps and private_data.tar file are located) you need to power cycle the drive and restart MakeMKV. The SDF.bin file will be absorbed into the private_data.tar file and LibreDrive should be enabled. If it still isn't enabled, insert a blu-ray disc into the drive and MakeMKV should create a firmware dump in the data directory for you to email to support@makemkv.com.
Cheers :D
