Pioneer BDR-S13J-X and VLC issues

Post by Lowrider20251 »

Hey guys,

I hope I can get some help here, recently I have been unable to view blurays through VLC. When I checked MakeMKV I noticed a new section showing that LibreDrive is now Enabled. Previously I would have no issues playing back my discs on VLC when this status showed disabled (possible in the future). I am getting random error messages in powerDVD to play back these blurays. As you can tell I am also getting DEBUG errors in the screen shot and I am unable to open the disc up in MakeMKV to create backups of my discs. Funny enough MyMovies has no issues reading the data on these discs for getting the Disc ID off of them. Can anyone here help me get my bluray drive working again with VLC.

Just exit MakeMKV before you use VLC then libredrive will be disabled.
Cheers :D

So I tried just now to run the disk and VLC is now throwing errors saying it couldn't Decrypt the disk to play. This wasn't the case before the enclosure I'm using is the Vantek Nexstar DX I originally was using another Pioneer drive that was the bdr 212 and had 0 issues playing 1080p films on it.

I think you can setup VLC to use the KeyDB etc or you can use MakeMKV as the on-the-fly decrypter. Sounds like you are using the latter? Libredrive being enabled should not be an issue. Can you try another player? Maybe MPC-HC?

With MakeMKV open? You should have MakeMKV open to enable libedrive before trying to play a disc.

Resolved all issues by using a new enclosure, the drive required a 2.2a connection for power the Nexstar DX1 only comes with a 12v 2amp power supply. As soon as I switched over to the 12v 3a power supply with the nexstar DX2 I have had 0 issues playing 1080p content on vlc also to my surprise VLC had 0 issues playing the 4k UHD disk. thanks everyone for their comments. MakeMKV has no issues no or throwing debug errors with the drive.
