Asus BW-16D1HT Dead?

Post by Rojma »

I have an Asus BW-16D1HT internal drive that worked great for a few years which I used to rip hundreds of discs, including UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD. However, the other day it just stopped working. MakeMKV detects the drive but when I put it in a disc, it spins for a while and then stops and reports no disc. I have tried multiple discs, including discs that I was able to previously rip with this same drive.

Drive was being used in UnRaid (Linux variation). I moved the drive out of the device and into a USB enclosure and I still had the same issue. I then tried on a Windows device and still the same issue. The drive was cross flashed with the firmware that resolves the sleep bug, but I decided to flash it back to the following firmware:

ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin

Drive is still having the same issue.

I opened up the drive and blew all dust out with an air compressor and then cleaned the lens with alcohol and a micro-fiber cloth. Drive still having the same issue.

Any additional suggestions to try, or is the drive dead?
