My BDR-X13E-X is not supported yet. I know it will take some time before every drive becomes LibreDrive enabled, but from what I understood from Mike’s post, the new SDF update should allow creating a full firmware dump.
However, my dump file is only 3 KB instead of the expected full firmware dump of around 2 MB. Is this normal, or did something go wrong?

Just ordered a Pioneer BDR-209BDK. Is this a good LibreDrive? Does it need to be flashed? And can this read UHD?
Also, I own an older LG Blu-Ray/HD DVD can this be any good?

The Pioneer should be able to be cross-flashed. The LG is too old and the wrong drive platform.

I already sent a full dump to support 2 days ago Btw I had to delete makemkv folder so when I run makemkv again it downloaded sdf bin and created proper full size dump.

Trying to get my Pioneer BDR-212EBK with FW 1.05 to work but without success.

Please send the firmware dump from this drive, MakeMKV should create the file (dump_fw_xxx.tgz) automatically.

It bears mentioning that BDXL and UHD are different beasts. Physically, three-layer BDXL and UHD are almost identical, both using 33.3GB per layer and slightly shorter pits and lands than normal. But the BDA wanted to protect itself and licensed them separately. Any drive that is physically capable of BDXL is also capable of UHD and vice versa. The firmware is designed to specifically lock them out, though.

Is there some way to tell conclusively whether any particular drive is potentially UHD capable?

I have a Pioneer BDR-WX1DM (revision 1.01) on platform RS8801 (firmware date 2023) that I bought in panic when the Pioneer stocks started to dry up. It works well on standard BDs with the new SDF but not currently UHDs. It would be really handy to know without doubt if it's a drive that could in theory be 'unlocked' to allow UHD in the future if the good people at MakeMKV find a way, or not.

I see folks on these forums all the time saying things like, 'Oh that drive is UHD capable, it needs flashing', or 'No, that drive won't ever be able to access UHDs', so there must be some way of knowing?

Its not a UHD drive sadly I have 1 though to experiment with someday it can probably be cross flashed to x13ux or us but takes a lot of work

Are you sure? 8801 indicates a S11 /211 drive.
