I've run into a number of UHD disks that will not read. They come up as SCSI errors, drive errors, etc. Reading the forums over the years many people claim that these are manufacturing defects and they could quite possibly be manufacturing defects. I have run into a number of these myself, and for a while I thought there was nothing I could do. I cleaned the discs, tried reseating, different drives, etc. No luck.
Until recently I've run into 3 of them and I've fixed them all with this neat trick. (Excuse the click bait sounding sentence).
Here is what you do. Bend the disc. I used 2 fingers and hold the disc in one hand. Then using the other hand and pushing on the center hub, bend the disc slightly. Then rotate the disc 90 degrees and bend it again. The bend should be a good bend but not so much you break the disc itself. The UHD discs are pretty strong so don't feel you have to go crazy. You should feel good solid pressure when bending it. Its a flex of the disc.
What I think is happening here and why this works is that the laser is likely just missing the tightly packed data on the disc. By bending it you're introducing a slight wobble onto the disc which just causes enough of the laser to hit the missing data.
I've now attempted this on 3 discs which would not read after cleaning, etc. but every time I flex the disc and put it back in, it may struggle, but it has read it every time.
Hope this helps the community and would love to know if this works for you as well as it works for me.
Disk wont read / errors - Solution for many of them right here.
