Couple of days ago decided that in order to make my collection easier to access from different media players i have around the house that i should do MKV. However, excuse me if this is a known problem or not but for example if i play an ISO that its DTS-HD MA in lets say TmT5 and i have the information tab open it will show DTS-HD Mstr as the audio being played, however after ripping the movie with MakeMkv , and i did make sure i selected both the loseless track and the core track it only shows DTS.
Is this the way its supposed to be?
I tried powerdvd to see what was the audio bitrate and the Mkv file was playing at 5.9kbps on average. So im confused, anybody care to enlighten me please?
Thank you.
P.S: Also when playing the mkv on Powerdvd its shows as DTS 7.1 but when playing the ISO shows as DTS-HD MA
DTS-MA before and after MakeMKV
DTS-MA before and after MakeMKV

Re: DTS-MA before and after MakeMKV
I'm not sure, but just to add a bit more info - What does MediaInfo say about the file in question?

Re: DTS-MA before and after MakeMKV
Mediainfo shows the following :
First Audio stream:
English, 1606Kbps / 1510Kbps, 48.0Khz, 24 bits, 8 channels/6 channels, DTS (MA/Core)
Second Audio stream:
English, 1510Kbps, 48.0Khz, 24Bits, 6 channels, DTS

Re: DTS-MA before and after MakeMKV
There is no such thing as DTS 7.1 - if it's decoding all 8 channels, it's decoding the full DTS-HD stream.
Re: DTS-MA before and after MakeMKV
So, whats the deal then? Why does PowerDVD and TMT5 show only DTS being play when in reality is DTS-MA. It only happens on mkv files, BR ISO plays and shows the audio stream fine.

A display bug in the playback software?Knigh2000 wrote:So, whats the deal then? Why does PowerDVD and TMT5 show only DTS being play when in reality is DTS-MA. It only happens on mkv files, BR ISO plays and shows the audio stream fine.
Note that the MKV codec ID is the same for most variants of DTS ("A_DTS"), so there is no way to distinguish between regular DTS and DTS-HD in an MKV container without analyzing the audio stream. There are two other DTS codec IDs ("A_DTS/EXPRESS" and "A_DTS/LOSSLESS"), but the latter is only for "core-less" DTS-HD MA streams (which won't be found on Blu-ray discs).
