Wonder Woman (2017)

Post by BDbackerupper »

Has anyone had success backing up the subject Blu-Ray?

Every time I try, I get these errors:
MakeMKV v1.18.2 win(x64-release) started
Backing up disc into folder "<path_for_backup>"
Evaluation version, 26 day(s) out of 30 remaining
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:READ RETRIES EXHAUSTED' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00307.m2ts' at offset '795734016'
Failed to save title /BDMV/STREAM/00307.m2ts to file M:/Video/backup/WONDER_WOMAN/BDMV/STREAM/00307.m2ts
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:READ RETRIES EXHAUSTED' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00296.m2ts' at offset '6298595328'
Failed to save title /BDMV/STREAM/00296.m2ts to file M:/Video/backup/WONDER_WOMAN/BDMV/STREAM/00296.m2ts
Encountered 19 errors of type 'Read Error' - see http://www.makemkv.com/errors/read/
Backup done but 2 files failed hash check
tl;dr: Everything except the actual movie gets backed up.

The disc does not look significantly scratched to me. It is as clean as humanly possible.

To be clear, this is the NON-UHD/1080 version. dual-layer disc, which should be within the capability of the reader I'm using:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FBC4ZTQ2

It's been able to back up a bunch of other Blu-Rays and DVDs, except where the discs were scratched or physically degraded (one looks like it's delaminating, yikes).

I did read through the "If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!" thread, but don't see anything that would apply. I haven't got "another Blu-Ray drive" I can try. I had the same results all 3 times I tried to back up the disc, regardless of what kind of USB port it was plugged into.

What is going on with this particular title?

Does it always fail at the same offset? That usually indicates a flaw in the disk, or a dirty spot.

Variable locations in the same general area often point to the drive speeding up beyond its power capabilities and shutting down. Often that can be "fixed" by slowing how fast the system can write data, OR making sure the drive has sufficient power.

A note about USB-powered drives; the cabling matters. If the drive has a two-headed cable, make sure the are plugged into independently-powered ports, OR a USB3 port if the drive can be fed that way.

it doesn't always fail at the exact same spot, but it often does. It's always the same 2 files (00307.m2ts and 00296.m2ts) that are the problem.

None of the other things apply, so it must be the disc is too scratched for a good read.
