Based on similar info that others have posted, I am guessing that this is an LG drive, and I am guessing that it is flashable with the ASUS-BW-16D1HT-3.10-WM01601-211901041014.bin firmware. I'm using a Mac, so perhaps there is no autoflash kit available, but I should then follow the command-line process as explained in the "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025"?

Yes, follow the guide. You can use the ASUS 3.10MK or, without sleep bug and better performance with 3-layer discs, the LG WH16NS60 1.02MK.

Sounds good. However, I notice that the "all you need" firmware pack I downloaded (from the "ultimate guide" page) doesn't have something obviously corresponding precisely to "LG WH16NS60 1.02MK", though it does have the sort-of-similar file "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin". Is "HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin" indeed appropriate for my drive? I have gotten the sense from reading through other forum posts that there may be multiple firmware packs. Should I instead look for a different firmware pack with a different .bin file? (And, if so, where should I look for it?)

Also, I notice that the "ultimate guide" instructions state "the latest working version is 1.17.7 of makemkv for flashing do not use an newer version for flashing until further notice on linux". I'm not on Linux; I'm on a Mac; but should I try to first downgrade to makemkv 1.17.7 first anyway? I'm not sure if "on linux" is intended to really be a Linux-specific warning or in fact generic for all command-line flashing? Perhaps backing up to 1.17.7 would be safest in any case ...?

Actually, I went ahead and tried downgrading to makemkv 1.17.7, but (after getting through all the macOS security shenanigans) when I tried to launch it, I simply got the message "Fatal error occurred, program will now exit." So I either need to be able to flash with command-line tools using a more recent version of makemkv, or I guess give up on the process for the moment (or until one can do command-line flashing with more recent versions of makemkv).

You didn't provide the command line used but I assume you are missing 'enc'

Ah, you assume correctly. I hadn't realized that my firmware was on the encrypted list, though I really should have guessed that when it didn't seem to work! I ran it again using the format for encrypted firmware provided in the "ultimate guide" (including 'enc'), and now it all works.

Previously I flashed my LG BH16NS40 (NS50) using cmd commands but this drive has problems with reading 3 layer discs. Sometimes it reads them sometimes throws errors "L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR" and sometimes it doesn't work at all (making a strange sound).

You omitted to post the most important part "Drive platform". If it's MT1959 you have an LG and you can flash it yourself.
