Stuck at 'Scanning device: SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'

Post by scolbeck »

When I open MakeMKV, it seems to be stuck scanning the CD-ROM devices. Under 'Information', it says 'Scanning device : SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'. Below that, it says 'Scanning CD-ROM devices' with an elapsed time counter. The elapse time counter will keep increasing with no eventual time out or error. When I try to cancel the operation, it does nothing. Even after killing MakeMKV, Windows is in a weird state where no new programs can be opened.

It does this regardless if there is a DVD/BluRay disc in the drive or if the drive is empty. I also noticed the drive light activity light never even turns on.

I am using MakeMKV version 1.4.8 on a Windows XP Professional machine with Service Pack 3. My BluRay drive is a LG GGC-H20L. Any thoughts what might be wrong here? I don't have any problems using the drive with any other programs.

Is this an internal or external drive?

This is an internal SATA drive.

Over the weekend, I installed MakeMKV on my Linux machine and it worked perfectly (with a Buffalo internal SATA drive). I then installed Windows XP under VirtualBox on the same machine and encountered the same problem. I played around with some VirtualBox settings and kind of got MakeMKV to work by disabling the CD-ROM Passthrough option. With this disabled, MakeMKV would start but the 'Open Disc' option was disabled. However I could use the 'Open files' option, select the index.bdmv file on the BlueRay drive and successfully create a MKV file that way.

I get this problem too. An internal, SATA Bluray drive. I didn't have this problem in previous releases (1.46), only when I needed to reinstall to the new version.

I switched SATA cable + port on my Blu-ray player and 'scanned for hardware changes' in device manager. got it to work!
