Damn. But I kind of expected that the remaining drives prices will skyrocket.

at this point i'll happily pay that for a backup drive just in-case something were to happen to my BDR-S13UBK. btw any idea what sort of lifetime i should expect from a BDR-S13UBK?

Just checked this thread and after reading I’m sure glad I purchased a bdr-s13u-x drive from Billy when it was about $285!
Thanks again Billy I love the drive and it’s been working perfectly!

I'm feeling lost. There's a lot of talk about drives not purchased from Billy. I've bought some in the past and used Billy's flash kits - but they are all broken because I dropped them. I'd like to buy a new drive from Billy when they are available. But I only use a laptop and need an external drive or two and would like to get one configured for external use. What are any of your recommendations? Consider me a low-tech person (although I worked in tech for most of my working life, retired now from information security).
I'm now backlogged four new movies to be ripped and want to get caught up so I can put them on my Plex server. Thanks for any advice you can provide. ;-Deb

Looking forward to purchasing one as well. My spring was complicated and I dropped the ball.

Forgive me if these are stupid questions. Newbie here.... I just pulled the trigger on a Pioneer BDR-212DBK drive. I selected it over the Asus BW-16D1HT. It arrives tomorrow so cant check any the drive info. After reading a bit, it seems like this drive cant be reflashed? Is this correct? If the drive can be updated for UHD use, do I just need the flash tool that you sell? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Note: I would have ordered a drive from you, but after reading page 1 and this page, it said that you were out of stock.

Thanks, Billy. Are any of the drives external drives?

Not Billy, but pulling from the original post and personal experience, the OWC Mercury Pro Enclosure works perfectly with internal pioneer drives. The drive sticks out a little bit but it's no big deal. Only $55 from B&H (if you are on the East Coast they ship as fast or faster than Amazon and have a generous return policy).

Thanks for the heads up of having plenty of inventory, Billy. I do absolutely plan on buying at least one.
I've had two BU40Ns, one went bad (people's newer posts make me think the Vantec enclosure might be related?), other one's still living for now. I take it pioneers tend to not have longevity issues or at least last a lot longer? I've used my drives to decrypt on the fly as to not need to store every one, but I hear that's not great for their lifespan so I'll probably save them for ripping from now on.
There being potentially no more drives in production worries me for the future.
