Planet Earth as You've never seen it before The Complete Series
Planet Earth as You've never seen it before The Complete Series
I am trying to backup up this dvd collection. It comes with 5 disks. Each disk has 3 titles on it. Makemkv only creates 1 file with only the first file on each disk. The errors I get are below. I've tried several dvd and blu ray drives all with the same result. I can send output from my lg blu ray player as well if that will help but basically the same errors. Any ideas? Thanks.
MakeMKV v1.18.1 win(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:UNRECOVERED READ ERROR' occurred while reading 'DVD+R-DL hp DVD RW AD-7250H5 1HNK 1266707L111' at offset '3885836288'
Title #1 has length of 2 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped
Cells 20-20 were removed from title end
Title #2 declared length is 2:56:19 while its real length is 1:29:08 - assuming fake title
Cells 7-7 were removed from title end
Title #3 was added (6 cell(s), 0:58:42)
Cells 8-8 were removed from title end
Title #4 declared length is 0:58:48 while its real length is 0:30:20 - assuming fake title

Above post is using my lg blu ray drive and CellFull
Re: Planet Earth as You've never seen it before The Complete Series
Is it not possible to backup this series?
Re: Planet Earth as You've never seen it before The Complete Series
It looks like both drives show an error trying to read the disc at a similar spot. The standard advice is to try cleaning the disc.
Re: Planet Earth as You've never seen it before The Complete Series
The problem with that theory is it happens on all 5 disks and they look clean to me.
Re: Planet Earth as You've never seen it before The Complete Series
Based on the errors you've posted, the optical drive can not properly read a spot on the disc. That isn't a theory.
Do the other discs fail in a different way?
That the discs look clean doesn't mean it is clean. One can not see the individual pits and bumps that make up the data track on the disc so it stands to reason that a contaminant too small to see might interfere with the laser's interaction with the disc.
In the end, it might be out of your control. In my experience, some drives just don't like some discs. I have four drives and my main drives reads most discs most of the time. But when it runs into trouble with a disc almost always one of my other drives will read it seemingly without any trouble at all. Very rarely I end up with a disc that I have to replace and in that handful of cases my replacement copy has worked fine.

Hmmm I've tried two drives and all 5 disks. I will pick a disk and record the output from both drives and post here.

Re: Planet Earth as You've never seen it before The Complete Series
This also happens with the Blue Planet disks. I don't have an issue with any other disks on these drives. I understand it could be a bad disk but between the 2 series there are 10 disks which seems unlikely its a disk issue. I will post a more detailed review of both series and using different disk drives and disks.
