Get the ugoos, all the other devices drop frames with FEL playback. CPM A14 has perfect playback and doesn't really need any update so we are good forever...

Decision made. I'm going for the Ugoos.
As always, thank you very much RESET_9999

Yes I downloaded the original clips and watched them on my a95l via the ugoos.RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 26, 2025 1:00 amThe Stranger Things, Liongates and Silo clips have slight banding/posterization in the source, but you should watch the original clips rather than the YouTube versions.

The C2 and G5 show a lot of banding and posterization in HDR10, but DV is practically clean. My Samsung HDR10 monitor, on the other hand, shows no banding/posterization at all.
I did see mild banding/posterization mainly in those 3 clips.
Hopefully lg can fix the g5 and their future oleds, but I doubt it.

Well, my old C2 also has tons of banding/posterization in HDR10, so I guess LG indeed will never fix HDR10. Thankfully, they get DV right.deadchip12 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 26, 2025 11:38 pmYes I downloaded the original clips and watched them on my a95l via the ugoos.

Is there a difference between DV and HDR10 on the Sony?
On Samsung TVs and Monitors, the image is clean, so I suspect Samsung might be doing some undefeatable smooth gradation under the hood.

I don't see any obvious difference between hdr10 and DV on the Sony in terms of posterization.RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 12:41 amWell, my old C2 also has tons of banding/posterization in HDR10, so I guess LG indeed will never fix HDR10. The Samsung is completely clean even with the 3 clips you mentioned?

I talked to someone who had the new Samsung OLED TV but ended up returning it due to poor uniformity. He told me all the clips were completely free of banding and posterization.deadchip12 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 8:00 amI don't see any obvious difference between hdr10 and DV on the Sony in terms of posterization.

I only have a small Samsung OLED monitor for my PC, and it’s also pretty much clean, maybe with slight banding if you look very close. Funny thing is that my Samsung oled phone is worse than the G5 HDR10 and looks horrible.
Additionally, the G5 in HDR10 exhibits undefeatable dithering noise in all areas below 10 nits. Really a bad choice for anyone watching HDR10 content.

So strange. It dolby vision is clean on the g5, it means the panel tech is not the culprit, no? It also means there is no reason lg cant fix hdr10? I heard the panasonic z95b which uses the same panel has good hdr10 with almost no dithering noise, but bad dolby vision. It's like these manufacturers are intentionally playing with us.RESET_9999 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 27, 2025 11:08 amI talked to someone who had the new Samsung OLED TV but ended up returning it due to poor uniformity. Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I have a copy of both Superman's digital release with Dolby Vision and an ISO of the movie but somehow without Dolby Vision, just HDR. It's a legit copy otherwise. Is there a way for me to merge the DV stream to the MKV of the disc? I can send both to anyone who can help.
I've seen the tutorial but since the film's yet to be released until next month, I can't verify the plot.

Hmm, the back of the retail box shows Dolby Vision for sure, so unless it's weird authoring mistake, maybe you should also try and remux from .m2ts using mkvtoolnix or latest DGDemux to confirm?
