As the title says, MakeMKV won't rip my Spider-Man (2002) disc and keeps giving read errors.
I have ripped Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse on 4k bluray, and many DVD's as well as at least 5 Blu-rays, with MakeMKV without any problems.
I don't think the disc is flawed, because it plays in VLC with MakeMKV integration, but just will not convert to a MKV file in MakeMKV. The main feature, which is what I am wanting to rip, is shown in the titles menu after opening the disc, but MakeMKV gives several read errors when trying to convert the content.
I have already cleaned the laser on my LG BU40N drive, which I am using to read the disc, but I would like to know if anyone has any potential fixes to the problem in MakeMKV.

What have you cleaned the disc with? Soap and water does absolutely nothing for me when I have had problem discs, What works for me is specs eye glass cleaner, good job I wear glasses lol

I didn't clean the disc considering it is brand new and reads properly in VLC. I cleaned my LG BU40N's lasers by rubbing a Q-tip with 70% isopropyl alcohol on it.

You need to clean the disc that's the first thing to try, doesn't matter if it's new or if it plays in VLC.

Thanks, should I try cleaning the disc with a clean microfiber cloth or the same isopropyl alcohol I cleaned the lasers with?

Yes that's right give that a go, I had a problem disc had to clean it four times but it was a old disc.
It's your choice what cleaner to use but soap never works for me, you can use what you used to clean the laser just use a clean microfiber cloth.

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned the disc with a microfiber cloth first by just wiping off the surface, but that didn't seem to do anything. After the microfiber cloth, I decided to try using a cotton ball soaked with isopropyl alcohol which didn't change anything either.
I am almost certain the disc is faulty, so I am now attempting to get a replacement.

That's a shame it didn't work, hopefully the new disc will work, does it fail to rip straight away? if it fails again when you get the new disc post the debug log and I'm sure people will able to see what's going on and help, but that's always the first stage is to clean a problem disc even if it's new, that's why I always rip a disc straight away without waiting to watch it.

Sorry for the late reply. The disc doesn't fail to rip straight away. MakeMKV starts reading the disc normally then climbs to huge hour time estimates (like 12+ hours) then gives a lot of read errors. The store I ordered the disc from told me that every one of their discs for that particular movie were faulty from the factory, so I wouldn't be able to get a replacement. The store did however give me a full refund for the whole Raimi trilogy bundle I ordered the Spider-Man (2002) 4k Blu-ray in for the inconvenience and didn't make me send the faulty disc back. The other 2 movies in the bundle work flawlessly, but the first movie is unusable for ripping.

Shame sounds like a defective disc then, as it's just one disc I would keep on cleaning it to see if it it will just about manage the rip. it's frustrating when it happens so far I have managed to get my discs ripped by cleaning and cleaning.
Post up the errors here just to make sure it's a read error.
