How to see subtitles from playing a makmkv mkv file?

Post by idic5 »

I am new to this and I ran makemkv on a blu ray and created an mkv file. I tried to run it on my sony blue ray player and it did not recognize the mkv file - why?

also, when I ran it from my laptop, which has a cyber power dvd emulator sw, the movie played but there were no subtitles. I absolutely need subtitles due to hearing loss and being next to a train.

a quick search on this site on subtitles shows everyone wanting to remove to save space. So I want to know how to reveal thdem from the mkv file that makemkv creates.

the cycber power pgm had a function to play subtitles, if present. but apparently therer were not subtitles present .

to be clearer - makemkv created about four files. since I can only run one file, I had cyber power dvd run gthe biggest file, the movie. are the subtitles built into the main movie file? if so, what do I have to do to get them out? do i need to use another player? I tried wmc from w7 and it did not recognize teh mkv extension.

help - I cant hear you!

vlc worked like an appliance. you da man, or at least da poster.

no , I have to find a way to get my sony bdp-s380 to play the movie. it says it plays mp4. I guess I can try to conver the mkv to an mp4. I tried this already with handbrake and the sony player did not recognize it. handbrake created an m4v, which windows 7 called an mp4, but the sony blu ray player did not recognize.

anyone know of reliable mkv --> mp4 converter?

It's a matter of finding compatible settings. The issue with HandBrake, however, is that it can't see and/or decode Blu-ray subtitles.
