av sync issue?
av sync issue?
Hi,
I'm totally new here!! have noticed using a plextor pxb120 drivewith mkv 1.7 on my mac in evaluation mode getting a lot of avsync issues?
Makemkv says:
AV synchronization issues were found in file '/Volumes/video/bluray/t00_The_Expendables.mkv' (title #1)
AV sync issue in stream 1 at 0:00:33.700 with duration of 6.333ms : encountered overlapping frame, audio skew is +6.333ms
Any ideas?
Phil

Re: av sync issue?
It's because it's a branching disc. Don't worry, MakeMKV will keep the streams in sync. It appears to auto-correct every 10ms (1/100th of a second).
Don't worry, you'll never notice. It handles sync better than my blu-ray player does.

Re: av sync issue?
I was ripping it straight to my synology ds410 nas then watching through my oppo 83.
It was unwatchable, jumping audio dropping etc...However, rips that have had no issues play just great on my oppo?
Could it be the oppo causing the bottleneck? Maybe i'll have to get a mede8er or dune?

Re: av sync issue?
I wouldn't do that. Ripping to a NAS can cause issues. Rip locally first then copy it to the NAS.TopMeTom wrote:I was ripping it straight to my synology ds410 nas

Re: av sync issue?
Really? I've always ripped direct to my NAS and never had a problem.crowfax wrote:I wouldn't do that. Ripping to a NAS can cause issues. Rip locally first then copy it to the NAS.
What sort of problems can occur?
Re: av sync issue?
In the past, I've had a NAS that hasn't maintained the volume bitmap correctly, causing the multiple writes to occur in the same sector which corrupted the file.
Rip local, then copy. You really should be trying to minimize the avenues for failure when doing any job.

Re: av sync issue?
I did start off doing it that way, the avsync issue happened doing it that way, so tried it into the nas.
So its not that.

Re: av sync issue?
When are the AV sync issues apparent during play back; and when are they not apparent. Please explain the playback scenarios for both.

Re: av sync issue?
Ok it shows avsync as i posted when ripping in my makemkv screen.
Unfortunately when playing through my oppo83 the sound drops and picture skips
Now its showing up in gladiator

There are two different things going on here that you are connecting that are not connected.TopMeTom wrote:Ok it shows avsync as i posted when ripping in my makemkv screen.

All seamless branching discs are going to show those AV sync's when you rip them. It's normal because it's the way Blu-ray discs are made. Your standalone Blu-ray player will have a similar method for maintaining sync. If you can notice an audio delay of 1/1000th of a second you need to submit yourself to medical testing because chances are you're the next step in human evolution.
As for the Oppo issue, how are you playing the file?
From the NAS?
If so, copy it to a USB drive and plug it in directly.
Does it still skip?
If not then the NAS or your network is the issue.
If it does still skip then do all MKV's made by MakeMKV skip?
Try a different disc and see if it has the same issue.
Find one that doesn't have several versions of the movie on the same disc.
Does that have the issue?

Re: av sync issue?
Thanks for the explanation most helpful.
I am playing from the nas yes i dont have a big enough usb. The disks that do not show the avsync when i rip all work perfectly.
A friend is lending me a mede8er tomorrow to see if they work ok through that.

Re: av sync issue?
If I were a gambling man I'd say it was your NAS or the network. That being the case using something another streamer will give the same results (unless it buffers better than the Oppo).

Hmmm got the mede8er some are better for sure, just a q?
The drives in my nas are 5400rpm would i be better with 7200rpm?

Re: av sync issue?
Chances are it's your network, rather than your NAS which are causing the problem. A 5400rpm drive can throw out data much faster than most home networks can send it.TopMeTom wrote:The drives in my nas are 5400rpm would i be better with 7200rpm?
If you want to start streaming HD media over your house, you're going to have to not use wifi. While it can be quick enough, too many other things effect it. For example: The wifi in my house goes screwy when the phone rings. You can either hardwire everything with ethernet cables. Which while worth the effort to achieve maximum speed can take a long time. Your other choice is to something like "powerline adapters". These let you use the electrical loop in your house as a network.
It's also worth investing in a good router.
