Update on the Archgon with no disc error. Regular discs read fine again and I got one disc reading (Disc 1 of the Arrow Hellraiser 4K set), but I'm having trouble getting any others to read. I think it's a power issue? What can I do to ensure it's getting enough power?
Use both cables plug direct in to back of motherboard not front panel.

Or get a high powered USB hub 35+ watts

The GUI may look a bit deformed if you are using a 4K monitor. You can right click the exe and select properties. In the compatibility tab, click "Change high DPI settings" then under "High DPI scaling override" tick the box and select "System (Enhanced)" in the dropbox.
This was a life-saver comment. Thank you!

Hi all — I’m hoping someone can help me recover from a flashing error.

I accidentally flashed slim drive firmware (WP50NB40) onto my ASUS BW-16D1HT. The drive is now soft-bricked — it identifies as WP50NB40 1.03, and I can no longer flash anything else to it. “Write flash” throws error 0xff05c103, and “Recover Drive” doesn’t work either. The drive is still seen in Windows and MakeMKV, but no flashing tool accepts the model mismatch.

I’ve tried renaming the firmware, using SDFTool and ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer, rebooting, and unplugging—no change. I do not have a firmware dump.

Does anyone have a method to reflash a BW-16D1HT that’s been misflashed with a slim drive identity?

Appreciate any help you can offer.

The recover option was made for this exact reason so should work if you do it correctly. First, ensure there is no disc in the drive and the tray is closed.

Select the drive.
Select RECOVER.
In the popup window, select the exact firmware you currently have on the drive. In your case, WP50NB40 1.03 MK (I assume you used the MK firmware)
In the firmware selection drop down box, select the BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK firmware.
Press START.

The process should take around 45 seconds and should work. I've done it before.

If you still can't get it to work, you could try using the old modified ASUS flasher as it does not perform any checks at all and may be able to flash the drive with BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK firmware.
Cheers :D

Hi,
three month ago I bought a Hitachi-LG BU40N Internal and flashed it to the 1.03 firmware and everything was working wonderfully. Now suddenly it won't recognice DVDs, Blu-rays and UHDs, just CDs show up as inserted. I guess it's not a firmware problem, so I want to return the drive. It came with firmware version 1.04. It seems I did not make a dump of that before flashing the drive.
Is version 1.04 available somewhere? On the Hitachi-LG website I only found an "auto firmware update" tool. Will the flash be detectable if I return to 1.04 before returning the drive?

You can just flash it with BU40N 1.04-MK

Dear person in question,

I've downloaded the SDL GUI. But when I try and open it, the program says that I need MakeMKV Installed. But I installed it. What should I do?

Install MakeMKV in the default location: "C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV"

Hi, Can I use the GUI Sdf Tool LG BU40N Firmware 1.03 MK for a BU40N Firmware 1.05 - or is there a separate version available for Vers. 1.05??
Would be grateful for your help.

DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK-bin: Does this GUI not work on Mac OS??
"Cannot expand...It has a format that is not supported."
Is there a separate file for Mac?

SDFTool flasher is Windows only. On a Mac you need to use the command line or a VM for SDFTool. Read this:
