Such a thing has never been reported before. Is this a drive in an USB enclosure? If yes you need to remove power AND USB. Otherwise the drive electronics is still powered by the USB connection.

These errors can also originate if the drive doesn't get enough power. Maybe with the new firmware it needs more power.
If it’s the same I have, it’s in an USB enclosure. It uses its own power and not from the USB.
You can find it on the ASUS site.

For a successful flash power needs to be removed completely. Both power supply plus USB. Otherwise the electronics is kept alive and doesn't reset the drive.

Hey all,

Could someone help out with a flash to enable LibreDrive on my new BW-16D1X-U please?

MakeMKV output or the drive is below:

Drive Information
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1X-U
Revision: E113
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 81

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F00
Firmware version: ID76

Also, just to confirm - I am right in thinking that LibreDrive flashing removes the Blu Ray region lock as well as unlocking the UHD ripping functionality?

Thanks in advance :)

Thank you, I'll have to dig out my old Windows laptop to flash but that's no big deal! I'm mostly MacOS these days :)

...and don't shit your pants. The crossflash works perfectly. No need to flash back. And we don't have the ASUS firmware to do so.

Hey guys,

I've just bought the BW-16D1X-U and have it exactly the same one as Ducreux :)

Drive Information
OS device name: H:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: BW-16D1X-U
Revision: E113
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2020-07-21
Bus encryption flags: 1B

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8F00
Firmware version: ID76

I've tried to read through the forum, but there is simply too much of posts there and I have some questions:
1. how can I make the original firmware backup?
2. would flashing it influence the drive M-disk writing/reading capability? .. I need it for my backups.
3. a guide how to flash would be super welcome

Thanks for all the help, we would all be fishes outside the water without you. :)
