[Solved] ASUS BW-16D1HT - Unable to Read UHD

Post by Perillex »

I bought the GoT complete 4k collection, unfortunately it is the only 4k video discs I own.
I was able to get Season 4 disc 1 to read the first time, the second time it just detected it as a writable BD.
The third time would not read at all.

Is this common for older ASUS BW-16D1HT drives?
Is there anything I can do? I am assuming there is not, and I will just need to buy a better drive.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have the drive in a VANTEC external case on Windows 11.
I was able to successfully flash it with the recommended firmware.
It is an older ASUS drive from December 2015.

The GoT discs are really bad. Pioneer drives would work better. Try WH16NS60 1.02 firmware. It works better for 3-layer discs like these.

Get a Pioneer drive while some are out there. Supply is running dry. Your country of residence?

I am in the USA.
I was looking a little bit but cannot find any Pioneer drives. I will continue to look.
I haven't checked ebay yet.

I think I messed up my ASUS drive though. I flashed it with the DE_ASUS_BC-12D2HT_3.11_MK firmware after trying the WH16NS60 1.02 firmware and now it cannot be flashed with any other firmware.

Look for a Vinpower 212V on Amazon or Newegg.

Try using SDFTool Flasher's recovery method to get back to BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK.
Cheers :D

Try using SDFTool Flasher's recovery method to get back to BW-16D1HT 3.10-MK.
I did try using the recovery feature of the SDFTool with multiple firmwares, and it remained the wrong firmware.

I finally found your post based on someone with the same issue. NEW OPTION: 'UHD Friendly' Firmware Downgrade / Cross-Flash Using Official (Modified) ASUS Flasher for ASUS & LG Drives article and was able to downgrade to DE_ASUS_BC-12D2HT_3.00.

After downgrading to DE_ASUS_BC-12D2HT_3.00 using the ASUS_ODD_FW_Changer_(Modified), I was able to upgrade to the DE_ASUS_BW-16D1HT_3.10_MK firmware.

Thank you very much for your work here MartyMcNuts! Also, thank you for your help Coopervid!

I am ripping the second 4k Blu-Ray now. It is still hit or miss though.
I am okay with that until I can afford a better solution.
