Do I need to flash my BDR-XD05

Post by buyitownit » Wed Jun 11, 2025 5:05 pm

Hi! I'm new to this as I recently decided to cancel crappy Netflix and build a real media collection. I've got around 100 DVD/Blu-ray discs and would like to use MakeMKV to put them on my Plex server.

I've found an old Pioneer BDR-XD05 and am hoping I can use it to rip my collection. Here the stats from MakeMKV:

Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD05
Revision: 1.21
Serial number: ...
Firmware date: 2014-04-02
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 65

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8231
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-XD05
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.21
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

I've read a lot about flashing firmware, do I need to flash this drive? Can someone hold my hand and help?

Thanks!

It will work for DVD and BD anyway. If you intend to rip UHDs just reply to this and we can make it happen.
