LG BP50NB40 reflashed reads SOME UHD discs

#1 Post by thievingweasel » Sun Jun 01, 2025 3:50 pm

Hello, I have an BP50 NB40 drive that has been reflashed to the BP60 firmware. The drive reads standard blu ray discs without issue but is only reading some UHD discs it appears. I was able to rip the first disc of season 1 of The Mandalorian, now it will not read any of the discs from that set (all are UHD) including the original disc 1. I have a copy of Rogue One in 4k that works every time. I have tried reflashing the drive again, I close makemkv and wait until windows recognizes the disc before trying to open it ( it doesnt and never recognizes the discs) but I cannot seem to get it to read. Is it just a crappy drive not working with newer UHD discs?

Here is the info from makemkv on the drive and firmware:

Wash new discs with warm soapy water and dry it carefully with a lint-free cloth.

If this doesn't help, flash it to BU40N 1.03MK and try again.

its extremely easy to clean the laser on that drive just eject the tray and unplug it.

clean lasers with a lint free cloth or qtip and alcohol and dry with another do this 2 times and do not let it air dry you must remove the residue with a dry one!
