Hi Billy, what kind of problems have you had with the Vantec NexStar DX2 ? I'm currently using it (got it last year 02/2024) and wondering if I should change to OWC's... Thank you
Pmed you
I own, but haven't used in may years, a full size Vantec NexStar case, maybe DX2. Can you please share with me your observations, concerns?
Thanks!

Ordered a Pioneer 212 from Billycar11 earlier this month. Quick and very communicative. Despite a small shipping error that was
not his fault (it was all PAYPAL!), I got the drive safe and in great working order. Successfully ripped my first 4k last night and had no problems.
Very satisfied.
Thanks, Billycar11.

Just got my Pioneer 212 from Billy. Showed up quickly, works right out of the box (well, after plugging it in to the recommended external case). Great service

Louis Rossman should
always be taken with a
giant block of salt.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the OWC enclosure. I've used/owned/own/recommended them for many years. Some drives are longer than others, and the case isn't the biggest on the market - just one of the most reliable (electronics, build quality, etc.)
Just happens that the Pioneer drives are longer than some other drives. Back a page or two in this thread is a picture or link to a picture of the slight modification of the sheetmetal mounting tabs.

Trust me the other option is even worse junk
This one you just need to slightly modify it to fit that's the only thing wrong with it the fit

It literally takes like 2 minutes to make the modification. You just need a pair of pliers to bend the screw tabs about a quarter of an inch Forward. I've done it on three different cases in fact I did one just on Friday. The pictures posted on the previous page tell you exactly what you need to do.

Billy was very quick to send the firmware and flasher I needed for my 2014 Pioneer BDR-XD05B to allow it to become UHD friendly in MakeMKV! It changes the model to BDR-XD06U with firmware revision 1.11 I had no trouble flashing the drive. I had wanted a USB lightweight Pioneer 4K drive to replace my older LG 5.25” drive. For those looking to do the same thing, make sure you find one mfg. before 2022 that hasn’t been updated. My backups were comparably quick and reliable. Thanks for a quick and professional service Billy!

I too have a BDR-XD05B mfg 2016. Is there any chance you would be willing to help me out as well? It would be great to keep using this little drive!

Just purchased a flashing kit for my Asus BW-16D1H-U, quick turnaround and worked first time, currently doing a test convert of Schindler's List 4K.
Thanks Billy, excellent service

Ok well bit of bad new everyone i am down to less than 100 pioneers with old fw so likely soon i will stop selling drives unless something changes soon
hopefully this is temporary until a workaround for new pioneers happens but even then there are not many pioneers left
so if your in the usa and have been waiting to get a pioneer with old UHD FW now is the time
