Really strange that this is better on my G1 uncalibrated.
I can see 69 faint on cmv2.9 4000 nits MDL.
And your test file called "cmv2.9 4000 nits MDL with Trims" I can see even 68 very faint.

I'm guessing something really changed starting from the c2/g2 series compared to c1/g1
my C8 was the same as the C2 but Dolby did change something because the G1/C1 are the last TV to support Chroma Weight in cmv2.9, and now not even cmv4.0 CW works on the G5

@RESET

You got that picture of the greyscale 10%?
sorry, the 5-10% grayscales are too dim. My camera cannot capture it... I have to raise ISO, which introduces noise that masks the issue.

EDIT: actually what I'm seeing is exactly like in this video:

For what it's worth I've been watching movies in DV on my 83" G5 for a few weeks now and have not been able to see the dithering effect in any content in the darkest of scenes from my seating distance of 10' away. And believe me I looked.

Good to know, thanks. I haven’t noticed it in the two movies I’ve watched so far, but they were both bright 4000-nit grades. I do see the falling noise in the dark scenes from Dune samples, but not the diagonal lines which I only see in static images so far. Overall, I’m satisfied with the Dolby Vision performance. HDR10 is the only mode that looks bad, but I don’t really care since all my movies are in Dolby Vision anyway.

I’ve sampled a few FEL titles that expand the brightness range, and wow, what a difference.

Took a couple of pics from some FEL movies that expand brightness vs HDR10 (will be part of a much larger comparison on youtube): https://slow.pics/c/0Xy0y1Vw
These movies benefit a lot from a brighter TV...

Maybe next year for me. I'm spending too much money this year on house repairs. But that does look promising. Maybe we'll hit 4000 at some point and be done with tone mapping altogether. I mean sure 10k but realistically if it's tone mapped to within 4000 who's really going to notice. LOL

Yeah, the G Series models are insanely expensive. I’m hoping I can hold off longer before upgrading again...
I got used to the ugly large vertical bars on my C2, but now that dark scenes are so much cleaner and with that incredible brightness, I think I’ll be able to resist the temptation for years.

That's why I'm resisting. My g2 is no slouch. I get over 900 nits on it. Paired with the ugoos it's an amazing setup. The c8 is showing its age but for a bedroom TV it works very well.

Still happy here with my G1. Upgrading will be in 2 years maybe. Definitely not before.

ugly large vertical bars on your C2?
What do you mean with this?

@RESET_9999 I've noticed you are re-generating Dolby Vision for the entire mission impossible saga. Isn't the retail RPU good enough? Are L2 trims automatically generated even in the stock RPU?

Bad uniformity. My G5 is by far the best I've ever seen on any oled.
Try the 5% - 10% grayscale files: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/fold ... 2ZGhSXZk_D

On the C2 I see two large vertical bars in all the dark scenes and even on the grey menu when the ugoos boot. That is very annoying.
Also, I checked the DV 10% grayscale again on my C2, and the falling diagonal lines are also there, only in DV but less obvious than on the G5. So, LG TV does more dithering in DV than in HDR10, which explains why DV has no banding and HDR10 has some.

On the C2, 4000-nit MDL content mastered with the old algorithm is heavily crushed, and L1 starts dimming far too early, well below the TV’s actual target. Also, the Mission: Impossible L2 trims are mostly static and don’t contribute much to improving the tone mapping.

Yeah I know. The 5%-10% greyscales are also not great on my G1. I don't mind too much about it though as long as it doesn't bother me too much in real content.

One more thing I noticed on the G5. The RGB white balance trick doesn't work to fix the DV raised black, not even at -6/-6-/6.
It's less raised than the C2 and I can see it only if the screen stay black for at least 3sec so I guess that wont bother me too much (hopefully) and maybe after 100h and a calibration will improve it.

CPM has an additional engine that can do on the fly conversations. E.g. hdr10+ to DV, even sdr to DV or the other way around. It's very useful for playing content that your display doesn't natively support.

is cpm taking the newest stable versions of CE with every new cpm update?
