Throttled read rate (on multiple drives)

I got a Pioneer BDR-XD07J that capped out at 2x read rate when ripping a bluray on MakeMKV, I downloaded software that let me change it from "quiet" to "performance" but it didnt change the read rate. I returned it and bought an LG WH16NS60 and the seller even confirmed to me that the drive reads at the advertised 16x speed. When using the drive the read rate goes to about 3x where it begins a slow crawl that ends around 7x (30m/s) about 10min before the end of the rip and begins to crawl back down. Is this standard for MakeMKV or is there something I need to do to achieve faster (and consistent) rip speeds?

more reliable and no hash errors
so that can save you an hour alone if your lg or asus errors out and you have to restart

If you have a lot of discs to get through, MakeMKV allows for using more than one optical drive at the same time. In preferences, turn on Ask for Single Drive Mode, then when you launch MakeMKV, you can bind it to a specific optical drive. You can then launch a second instance of MakeMKV and bind it to a different drive and rip two discs at the same time.
