“Fatal Error Occured” with MacOS 15.4 Developer Beta 1

Unfortunately, Beta 2 doesn't correct the issue.

Damn. I was just going to suggest everyone hang on a half hour while I updated.

Apple locked down a LOT of things in 15.4. I'm spending almost as much time in privacy and security settings as I am using apps for the moment.
As a few others have said, this is a newly-locked access route that was previously open.
Apple locked down optical device access somewhere that was open before.
same access problem a few other apps, including VM and translation apps.

It's odd that the MakeMKV-alternatives still work. They're just not as good as MakeMKV. Looking at you AnyMP4.

In the notes that came with 15.4.1 release Apple have made significant changes to all their SCSI handling procedures. Did anyone notice that their DVDPlayer App has disappeared and replaced with a "Viewer"?
Like most I now use the MakeMKV on a different Mac which has an Intel processor and it works fine.

Given the comment above about the changes to SCSI protocols, it would seem this is a problem that the MakeMKV developers need to find a solution to. I sort of wish they would chime in here and give us, at least, a "we're looking into it". Fortunately I have an older MBP that runs MakeMKV for now.

The "Devs" (there is only one for MakeMKV) shows up every couple of months to update the beta key, and when there is something to announce.

If you're waiting for Apple devs to announce fixing what they broke, they have a different place for such postings.

Oh, Apple tend to be immovable in situations like this when they change something that break indie apps. I don’t expect them to do anything to help.

I’m super bummed about this as MakeMKV has broken for me as well. I hope to hear from the developer eventually if these changes are possible to work around or if MakeMKV on macOS is effectively defunct.

I've tried this as well, but I keep getting the occasional SCSI error, and 4K's will not read whatsoever.

Everything was fine in the MacOS version.

Beta versions of operating systems break apps from time to time. This is why beta OSs should not be installed on people's daily drivers.

As far as the developer(s) of MakeMKV is concerned, there's no way for them to immediately know if this is a temporary regression in the 15.4 beta that will be fixed in an upcoming release, or if it's something that will remain broken when 15.4 is officially released and needs to be worked around. I'm sure they would love to know which, to know whether they need to find a workaround or not. I'd be surprised if they're not actively researching this to find out.

I've also paid for MakeMKV, and I too am also eager for it to work again. But as long as I, like you, choose to live on the bleeding breaking edge with OS betas, we bear some blame for it being broken for us and can't assume it to be fixed overnight.
