LG BP50NB40 no longer reading discs

Post by Lorddunlow »

I have an LG BP50NB40 that I purchased May 2023 that I successfully flashed and had been using to rip 4k discs for a while without issue. I only rip 5-6 discs at a time (usually when I get a new set of movies) every few months. I recently decided to rip about 15-20 discs over 2-3 days that I had neglected to rip over the years. After ripping a blu ray successfully today, when I loaded the next disc I had, it acted like it tried to spin up, but never got up to speed. The first couple of tries, MakeMKV showed progress but seemed like it would never read. I ejected, tried other discs, unplugged and reconnected, and nothing worked. Now MakeMKV doesn't show the disc drive status at all (open, reading, disc in). Any hope of repairing this. I just ordered a Verbatim 43888 from Amazon that will hopefully work, but I'd like to repair this one as a backup for the future. Really bummed about this.

Is the drive shown in the Windows Explorer or in the device manager?

Is there the "Initio Default Controller" in the device manager? If so uninstall it and check the drive function again.

It does show up in the device manager and as a disc drive in Windows Explorer now after I plugged it back in.

So it works with MakeMKV also?

Yes. But when I eject the drive, MakeMKV doesn't recognize that it has been ejected and doesn't recognize if a disc is inserted. The drive just acts like it's trying to spin up over and over but never does.

Is in that moment when MakeMKV doesn't recognize the changed status the drive available in the Windows Explorer or in the device manager?
