So I managed to test 1.02 and 1.03mk firmware with my BU40N drive and can get it to show the UHD disc now but when I click it it runs and gets error see screenshot. It does not make any sense. But it does DVD and Blu ray just fine it is just messed up for UHD discs
Reboot the drive.
Ensure the operating system initializes the disc before opening MakeMKV.
Ensure you have allowed MakeMKV internet access in preferences as it's needed to download the UHD hashed keys.
Cheers

Looking to get a Blu-Ray writer that can do 4K, I currently have a Samsung SE-506CB/RSBD and I wasn't sure if it is 4K capable. The drives I'm looking at are below:
LG Electronics BP60NB10:
https://a.co/d/dKhFKgh
Pioneer BDR-XD08UMB-S:
https://a.co/d/iDUI0VH
I've done the reading on the Pioneer drives don't work, but I do prefer them in terms of looks and quality. Any advice is appreciated!

Restarted everything and waited like you said and I have always had Internet access turned on for makemkv and it gets further now but says there is an error then about 300 files where skipped due to the length not being at least 400 seconds and then said failed to open disc at the end. I had to reboot my PC for it to display the disc drive as well as it was no longer an option

Turns out my Plex Media Server tower has a drive already in there. I have an LG WH16NS40 drive. So going to attempt the flashing of the firmware from the guide.

Just make sure the WH16NS40 is
manufactured after October 2015, has the SVC NS50 code on the sticker and has the MT1959 drive platform BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO FLASH IT!!
Cheers

It worked the drive was manufactured in 2017 and I did the GUI based tool and the Google Drive link for the firmware packs. In the screenshot you can see I'm doing a rip of the 4K version of Macross Do You Remember Love I just got in today. I'm happy that Iucked out with already having the drive. Looking forward to being able to rip Ultra HD Blu Rays!!!

Since it said failed to open disc and said no drive available I can no longer get it to load UHD discs only Blu Ray and DVDs if I put in a UHD Disc it says no discs after it attempts to load?
Also it's still running 1.03 MK Firmware and it's the BU40N
Any ideas or is the drive broken for UHD

Try flashing with LG BU40N 1.03MK.
Thank you once again, I managed to flash my Buffalo drive successfully with LG BU40N 1.03MK
Do I need to flash it further with one of these three firmwares?

Just bend it with a straight nose plier.

I have makemkv 1.17.9.
I have BU40N running 1.03 mk firmware
I can only run UHD discs up to AACS 68
I have several that are AACS 77 how do I get them to register with my drive if I load anything above 68 it says no disc after it spins up and down.
If I load a 68 or below in about 20-30 seconds it loads right up see photo and I can make a copy with no issues.
What do I need to do from here to get the key database updated to accept AACS 77?
