I have an LG Slim WP50NB40-NB50 that I decided to take the plunge and flash. I read several discussions with people with this same drive and went through the steps. I was able to use SDFlasher v1.3.5, and it said that it was successful. MakeMKV drive information also looks correct based on what I have seen others post:

However, the drive no longer opens or reads the disc (when manually forcing the drawer open). Is there a step I missed somehow?
I have no idea what steps you are following but they are not the right one's! It looks like you have flashed a very old firmware to your drive. Nowhere do any instructions mention flashing BP50NB40 1.00 firmware to the drive!!
The correct procedure is provided in detail in the first post of this very thread.
Cheers

I think xxpickles may have skipped to the very end of your first post and missed a few important details:
I have created a windows GUI for the MakeMKV sdftool command line flasher. The appearance (and use) is similar to the modifed ASUS flasher, which should make it a bit easier for those that are unsure about using the command line. The latest version is v1.3.5.
... PS: For your convenience, here are the firmware files to recover the old LG/ASUS drives:

It was a separate thread that was specific to the drive I have. Looking at it now, it was also using an older version of the SDFlasher program and a couple of years old at this point.
I went back through the instructions and tried again. The drive opens and attempts to read the UHD disc, but it still shows that there is no disc. It did read a Blu-ray disc with no issues.

You have to be on bp60 fw or bu40n see guide for flashing sequence below
Got it. I think that's the step that originally got me into the problem with the really old version. I did get it flashed with the correct version, and I'm currently ripping "True Lies" as a test.
How can I make that my unit read UHD discs? I have already followed the steps as indicated in the guide.
the flashing is done and the firmware is changed but the unit is left in a state where the tray does not open,
I must restore it with the firmware BP50NB40-NB40-1.00-Clean.bin to make it work again.
I try to update with the official application, it show a message that the SVC code is different and does not allow me.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Why are you using that old flasher from years ago?? I'm not sure what instructions you are following but they must be very old for yhou to be using that.
Why not follow the instrucitons in the first post of this very thread??
Cheers

You have to use the RECOVERY option as you have flashed it with old firmware. You should have never touched the BP50NB40-NB40-1.00-Clean.bin firmware as that is for people that accidently flashed old pre October 2015 drives.

The drive opens, but does not recognize my 4k copy of North By Northwest.
Please have pity on this old man trying to get a Plex server populated. Thanks so much.
You have only done the first flash. Now you need to finish with the cross-flash.
1. Select drive
2. Select RECOVERY
3. In popup window choose the firmware that is currently on the drive (in your case, BP50NB40 1.03-MK)
4. In firmware selection drop down box select DE_LG_BU40N_1.00 firmware
5. Click START and the process should be done after about 30 seconds or so.
Cheers

Mr McNuts - I thank you very much. My drive is whirring away ripping NxNW as I type. A testament to a community with helpful people. Much appreciated...
I just wanted to thank you for this tool. I was able to flash my Asus BW-16D1X-U that I bought on 02-17-25. It came with firmware revision A105. I was able to flash it to revision 3.10.
