Pixar's Blu-Ray Audio Skew Question

Post by Mivemot »

Hi there,

I'm currently ripping my Pixar's Luca Blu-ray, and just like with my Wall-E Blu-ray, I'm getting a lot of audio skew warnings during the process. I rarely encounter these issues with other discs, so I wanted to ask: Is this normal for Pixar's animated movies? Is there a way to get a perfect match?
Tracks 1 and 2 contain the English dub, while 3 and 4 contain the German dub, using the correct .00800 MPLS.
What are considered acceptable audio skews? A 10ms skew is probably barely visible, right?

Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to answer!

Here's a quick example of the warnings:

Code: Select all

IIRC, the threshold for the most perceptive of humans tends to be -20ms / +40ms. Anything inside that shouldn't be an issue. Most folks really don't start to get weirded out until somewhere up to about twice that (-40ms / +80ms ). Your best bet is to take the rip and watch it with a friend or two and don't say anything. Just wait and see if they say anything. If they do, then you know it's too much.

They're a side effect of the large amounts of seamless branching used on most Pixar discs. A lot of noise in the log from MakeMKV stitching together all the segments is common on Pixar films and should not be anything to worry about.
