All reads are failing all of a sudden

It was working fine and now when it goes to read a disc, the green bars just stop. Then when I go to write I get a fail. What happened?

Little more Information, I got a repeat of like 12 of these messages at different locations:
"The source file '/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB' is corrupt or invalid at offset 1385715712, attempting to work around"

If they location changes with each message (rather than staying in one spot), the retries were able to read that location. This will happen with marginal disks.

If it sticks in one place, though, you've gone beyond "marginal" and into "failure mode", which means you need to clean the disk, as a start.

Most of these are old Comp USA disks I used years ago, and then put away. But that could have been 15-20 years ago. Weird some work like a charm and others don't even get past the first few chapters.
