Player refuses to play BD-50 burn

Post by rnranimal » Sat Feb 08, 2025 12:46 am

I just bought some BD-50 blanks and burned my first one. I just grabbed a blu-ray I had here as the test, which was Rocky Horror Picture Show 2015 blu-ray. Ripped with makemkv decrypted. Burned the CERTIFICATE and BDMV folders using Toast's BDMV mode. Burned finished successfully. Popped it in the Sony player and I get a custom screen message telling me that my player can't play this and requires a firmware update to play it. Playing the original BR didn't give this message so it's to do with the rip/burn. I tried reading about BD+, if that could be the cause but really confused about what it is and if there is a way around it on some discs.

Both of my players are Sony players that I can no longer get to connect to the server, but as I recall it's been years since an update. They can't get on the internet but they are apparently looking for a server no longer there.

I'd hate to waste anymore of these discs so trying to figure out what's going on and how to avoid it. Thank you for any help.

I think you are supposed to include the AACS folder.
Cheers :D

I recall reading somewhere that I should remove the makemkv folder, is that not true? Or do I pull out the AACS folder to keep before deleting?

It's been many years since I last wrote to a blank Blu-ray disc but I'm pretty sure to be playable in a standalone player, it had retain the normal disc structure, so the disc should have the AACS, BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders. Even though it has the AACS folder, the m2ts video files themselves were decrypted when you ripped the disc so they should still play.
Cheers :D
