Upgrading ASUS BC-12D2HT to 3.11 MK

Post by belze » Thu Jan 23, 2025 11:10 am

Hi everyone,

I currently have an ASUS BC-12D2HT which has been flashed to DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK, so it has the Sleep Bug and incorrectly reports it's capabilities.

I've read that flashing the "proper" firmware for your drive gives you the best results (and the best speed), so I've read all the information I could find and would like to verify I understood correctly:

1. Get latest version of SDFtool Flasher (viewtopic.php?t=22896)
2. Use the "RECOVER Drive" Option and then FIRST select the DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK.bin file and SECOND select DE_ASUS_BC-12D2HT_3.11_MK.bin to flash to the current, UHD Friendly, LibreDrive enabled firmware.
3. Drive successfully updated?!

Thanks for any advice!

The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide says:
Sleep Bug Fix:

To fix the sleep bug on a UHD Friendly drive flash firmware from an UHD Official drive like WH16NS60 DE 1.00 or 1.01MK 1.02MK 1.03MK
So, your ASUS drive flashed to WH16NS60 1.02MK should not have the sleep bug.

Thanks for pointing that out, the drive did make weird noises, so I thought that was due to the "Sleep Bug" :?

Would there be any downside to flashing the newer 3.11 MK firmware made for the drive and is my understanding about the process correct?

You can flash directly to 3.11MK. The same way is shown for big brother BW-16D1HT in the guide.

But with this firmware you'll have the sleep bug in any case. My experience with the BD-ROM/DVD-RW drives like the ASUS BC-12D2HT and the LG CH12NS40 is to use the often recommended firmware WH16NS60 1.02MK also with no negative effects but without the sleep bug.

But try it and decide yourself :-)

Thanks for the hint, I went ahead and tried to directly flash 3.11MK using SDFtool Flasher and it went through fine, but the drive is still on the DE_LG_WH16NS60_1.02_MK firmware and showing itself as a WH16NS60 on boot and in Windows :? .

Maybe I do have to use the "RECOVER Drive" Option :?:

Generally, a drive will not show its new software until it reboots when you power cycle it. Did you do that?

I did shut the computer fully down, but it was still showing up as "WH16NS60".

While waiting for my post to be approved I just went ahead and tried using the "RECOVER Drive" option as I initially described it:

That worked super-well and now the drive is showing up as an ASUS BC-12D2HT with firmware 3.11 MK :D

It seems 3.11 MK does not suffer from the "Sleep Bug" as the drive is behaving exactly like before.

Well done. I'll check it when I get another BC-12D2HT. Have fun with your drive.

It's been working really well so far, have ripped one BD 100 in ~1 hour and two BD 66 discs in ~45 mins with a RIP speed of ~6x :)
